  • Ok, so at easts last night a bunch of us got talking about pubs, pros and cons etc. I piped up about a pub local to me called the Oakdale Arms, 283 Hemitage Rd N4 1NP. It's too far north for our easts tour so it was suggested that a separate visit be organized.

The Oakdale has aquariums all through it with live reptiles living in them, bizarre ales I've never heard of, a duke box with 2500 tracks mostly punk, rock & roll, metal, ska etc. a cheap pool table and a massive old punk for a landlord.

So I guess the idea here would be for other forumengers to put forward some suggestions of other quirky pubs and then we can make a ride (woop, woop) out of it. Good times be a' rollin'.

  • The Palm Tree.

  • Good suggestion.

    List of possibilities:

    1. The Oakdale arms
    2. The Palm Tree
  • The Foundry.

    Oh wait.

  • Big Red in Holloway?

  • Ben Crouch's Tavern, W1.

    The Toucan in Soho?

    I love quirky pubs.

  • The Intrepid Fox could be good for those who have never been?

  • All good suggestions. I do quite like the toucan and big red. Never been to Ben Crouch's tavern.

    3. Big Red
    4. Ben Crouch's Tavern
    5. The Toucan
    6. The Intrepid Fox
  • the Palm Tree rules.
the Cross Keys in Covent Garden is good.... Chris, the landord, is a good fella.

  • I like the Slaughtered Lamb on Great Sutton Street, great beer and food.

Best by far and needs a forum night out, The Bavarian Beerhouse on city road, nothing better than beer in steins and waitresses like this!

  • The Wenlock Arms for an instant trip to the 1940s and some cracking beer. +1 to the Cross Keys - just don't eat the food.

Garlic & Shots for Scandiwegian death metal and foul concoctions with garlic in.

The Hollybush for a nice quiet pint.

  • Oh I forgot about Garlic & Shots! Nice one.

Wenlock Arms sounds cool, always wanted to go to the Bavarian Beerhouse and the rest sound just as good.

  • I would like to do this ride.

  • montague arms, new cross gate

Scandiwegian death metal you say? In!
+1 for intrepid fox, just dont use the toilets

  • bradleys spanish bar offa oxford street

they have freebird on the jukebox! all 27 minutes of it!

  • The Charlie Chaplin, E&C...for an unrivalled lively atmosphere.

Oh how I miss that place since I left London, I loved hiding in the window seat ( a slight contradiction in terms ) of a lunch time listening to that jukebox....

  • Quirky decor count? Lord Clyde (red velvet curtains on brass rails) and the Gladstone (chintz tablecloths), SE1, both lovely pubs.

7' punk at the Oakdale is Rob, i believe. The pub's linked to the Pembury - they have beer overlap.

  • montague arms, new cross gate

    another vote for this pub.
    crackers.

  • The Churchill Arms, Kensington Church Street, W8

  • The Shakespeare, N16. Great Jukebox, good for bikes.

  • I reckon the Wenlock Tavern fits the bill. Also how about the 3 Kings, Clerkenwell?
Pembury Tavern? Weird beers and ciders, board games and proper geek crowd ... and bikes inside the pub. They might not want 30+ bikes in there though.

  • Wenlock Arms sounds cool.

You'll have to be quick - it's set to be demolished in a couple of months.
