  • Have you produced shop quotes for every penny? If not, do so, and invite them to supply the goods for the same price.

This assumes that you policy has new for old terms?

  • check the policy and get militant. I got 14bikeco to over-quote me the price of a rear wheel build so got an upgrade. Who are you with?

  • Who's insurance company is it? Yours or theirs?

  • Contact Insurance ombudsman - technical advice. Get the policy to help them assist. If it is your policy, tell the INS co, and advise what you are doing. It costs the INS co something in the region of £500 to follow up an ombudsman complaint and most general insurers would want to avoid a matter going to the ombudsman as I think this would have to be disclosed to the Financial Services Authority.

But if it' s your policy, it may not be old for new, hence the low offer. However, when your Insurer subrogates against the other party (ie gets back what they have paid out) they could attempt to recover your uninsured losses, which is the difference between what they have paid out and the true value of your claim

  • Be aware, if you go down the ombusdman route, the ins co will shut up shop there and then, and await the outcome. And a lot of the IO decisions are appalling, and often take and age to grind on. You are best off exhausting other routes first, and treat IO as the desperate last resort.

Lol... Ive been having a run of success with them recently!

Overall agree, but the threat of an ombudsman complaint could make the insurer take the matter more seriously.

perhaps not put that in public?

Ahh, well, mebbe they've started to get their shit together in the current climate of "cut useless quangos". But in any event, the more reasonable approaches you can show that the ins co have ignored, the better you'll do with the IO idiots.

  • see the solicitors we like thread

    will save you the bother

  • i thought i started this thread cant find the first bit????

  • had an accident in april which wasnt my fault, driving involved admitted fault. problem is the insurance company isnt paying for all my stuff. ive totalled up my goods to replace them all like for like at about 2700. theyve offered 1200. and dont seem to be willing to offer any more.

How can they expect me to get all the stuff that was ruined with such a small amount?

Go to a proper bike shop and get a full quote for everything that needs repair / replacement.

This thread has been merged with another that has a similar topic, makes it easier to find what you're looking for when searching forum innit
