My father was in the military, a lot of service people deserve a great deal of respect, and I know he had some hideous and difficult decisions to make during his career.
However some of these types of complaint seem a little specious, they know they are likely to be sent away, so to get all up in arms about a natural consequence of their job is slightly odd.
There are lots of people who may leave the country due to career or humanitarian reasons. They would not be let off their contracts. Considering how unjustified our presence is in both Iraq and Afghanistan it is hard to convince me that the rest of us should be further footing the bill for that by suspending their telephone contracts.
FWIW my father was involved in Iraq the first time, but is vehemently against our presence there and in Afghanistan now.
