    I had meant in usage by someone who knew how to use a derailleur for best performance. Of course that would mean using the chainrings and cogs with minimum crossover potential.

    If you mean by using the smaller ring with the largest 8 sprockets, and the largest ring with the smallest 8, improves the averaged chain line, then I agree. It was the use of the front derailleur that misled me. As you could achive the same effect with two chainrings and quick fingers ;)

    The difference is quite small though, and plenty of OTP's are spec'd with a 1x set-up, as it works fine.

    I nearly bought this one (well the frame)....
