New 1x10 project advice?

Fuck me. I don't normally wade in, but this whole thing is so blindingly stupid. Everyone is missing the most important point of all.

The guy wants a 1x10 set up and some advice and he got that, I think it is a setup that works well for commuting and medium length rides. Do we know what kind of riding the fella is doing? Surely that would effect his choice of transmission more than the extra wear on the cogs due to the extra cross chaining, which is an inevitable side effect of this setup. I have this setup on one of my bikes and enjoy riding it which is surely what it's all about. I'm going for a pedal.
