Canon's website had a number you can call to find out repairers.
I found a couple last time, both outside of London though. -

Thought that only applied to lenses, and that bodies are country of origin only?

Ed have you got the 'doesn't power on' issue that's well documented on the interwebz? I have it on my G9 - and need to get round to sorting it out with Canon.
It annoys me, especially as I was about to sell it...

It turns on but then drains the battery in a day or 2 (even if turned off). I read about the problem yours has but couldn't find anything about battery draining.
I bought it second hand so don't think I can warranty it. I might just open the thing up and see if there is something obviously wrong.

Try a new battery first, presuming you haven't already, as this will be the first thing a repairer will do. If the battery from a g11 fits I've got one you can borrow to see if its ok. Only if my other half doesn't take it when she goes away at the end of this week though.

I tried a new battery (not an official one) and still had the same problems, I think it must either be a problem registering the the lense is shut or that there is a short circuit somewhere.

Dropped the camera off this afternoon - awesome place!
They'll send me a quote by email if they can diagnose the problem.
Hope it's not too expensive, but fear it will be, as the chip probably needs replacing. -

Sucks. I lost two mobile phones that way. Somehow my 450D survived a good splash with a wave, although the USM focus motor on the 10-22 lens has been a bit funny since.
I think I ought to take the camera and lens in for them to take a look at -

Fixation have emailed me an estimate for the cost of repair. It's not cheap at a little under £300.
Without sounding like a cheapo (although I am a student), is there any way I could haggle this down? -

Probably not unfortunately. I had a rattle develop on my eos 1d and they quoted £130 for simply opening the camera up and then any extra costs would be added to this. Not sure if this is the same for you but if you took it somewhere else you could probably reduce this cost but the repair may not be as good/warrantied.
It's a bit of a sting but still less than replacing the body. Good luck.
Hello all,
I was innocently photographing the beautiful Marmaris Bay whilst on holiday in Turkey just a few days ago, when a rogue wave splashed my Canon 550D.
Initially, I stupidly turned it on to check if it was fine but was greeted by a card read error and had to reset time and date. A few minutes later the shutter would release nonstop at its max burst rate WITHOUT it being switched on. Now it fails to turn on at all and I believe it has short-circuited.
I don't think the warranty (only valid in China where I bought it) covers water damage.
So, can anyone recommend a Canon repair centre, preferably located in London?
Has anyone had any similar experience with water damage and DSLRs? (though I doubt anyone's as careless as me!)
Thanks,
Byron
