  • (I omitted the trackstand and resisted the urge to pat myself on the back for not RLJing)

  • Any pics with you and your shirt off?

  • Quite a few doing the rounds on teh internetz

  • Sweeeeet..

  • But srlsy. Good diary. Keep it going and keep it detailed (re aches and pains etc.) Get the bike quote done as well.

  • I will. Hopefully it won't escalate to Only Twats Ride With Worn Cleats levels.

  • Contact http://www.lfgss.com/member9547.html

This is horrid. Sorry bto hear about the damage to your bike (and to you).

  • Cheers Clive, really appreciate it.

  • Your story is horrendous, you have to go all the way legally. This kind of event should never happen! However "ungentlemanlike" or whatever, justice has to be done to prevent it happening again.
In my opinion, you need to get your compensation, but he needs to be penalised as well. Not being careful is not an excuse and in this case has dramatic consequences.

    Heal up quickly mate!

  • From the Great Journals of ocdc:

Walked to the GP today. What should be a fifteen minute walk (or a 3 minute ride) took about half an hour. I felt like an old man, pausing to lean up against buildings. Peds thought I was drunk probably. Too skint to pay for a taxi. The cartoon image of seeing stars when you get knocked out is actually coming true. Each step is connected with the pain in my head and with it brings little light spots. It's not fun.

GP was a nice bloke, said I had concussion and whiplash to add to the little list of wrongs. Told me to take it easy. Walked slowly back home.

Forum's own ojeffcott got in touch, as linked to by Cliveo above. What an ace he is. Took me through it again really efficiently, really easily. Told me what I should do, what to expect. Says he wants to take the case on. In this situation I feel like it's a massive benefit to have someone on my side who understands cycling, never mind a forumenger.

Woke up from sleeping in quite a lot of pain just now. Can't sleep on either side because of shoulders, on back because of head injury, or on front because that's just not right. Have thought about hanging upside down from ceiling. Am reading Dracula, against Doctor's orders. Girlfriend making me bangers and mash.

Also against Doctor's orders and despite the headpain it causes, spent far too much time here:

  • lemme know if you need a witness. my wife was talking to someone this week who witnessed an accident, and it sounds like yours.

    heal well x

  • Sounds horrible mate. If you need a lift to doctors or anything like that, this week you can drop me a pm to see if I'm around and ill gladly drop you off.

  • Hey thanks thanks thanks Hard Times that's really kind.

Peps dude - much appreciated. Waiting on pt 1 of the insurance dollar - desperate to get off my feet and out on the road again. If I need a witness I'll ask. It wasn't Dennis was it? I know him vaguely and he saw the whole shebang and was really helpful.

  • I hope your pains are easing a bit, ocdc, but I know from my mum's encounter with a lorry whilst cycling to the supermarket that a concussion can lead to post-trauma pains for a prolonged period. I don't wish to paint an unpleasant picture, but just want to say that you need to keep your chin up. In the meantime, I think you need to take the twat to the cleaners because you need to ensure that he remembers the incident longer than your body will.

  • Thanks dude. What I've found:

I've always been the niftiest little road crosser, been cycling all my life, had a driving licence for ten years, I'm not cocky but I know my way around the roads and I hold my own.

In the last week, in the few times I've been out, I've been actually quite scared of cars passing me (safely). It feels pathetic and it's bothering me. Point is, these psychological issues are real and unsettling and although we talk about taking people to the cleaners and although I'm happy about hopefully starting a new build with insurance money, it doesn't much compensate really.

  • Time is a healer OCDC. The pysch issues that incidents like this bring up take the longest to heal. But it will get better.

You need any bike help, there are lots of us here to help.

  • We all love our bikes dude, but trust me, your health and your peace of mind is worth a million bikes. But do get back on the horse quickly and beat the iron when it's hot (with this twat driver)

  • I just want to say a massive thanks to anyone who's bothered to wish me well, offer help or generally be supportive. I'm new to Brighton and I don't know loads of people here so it means a massive amount to me.

Been back at work this week, possibly a bit soon. Generally been useless, feeling incredibly lethargic and aching but because I've been here less than six months I don't get any sick pay apparently so I just couldn't afford to be off any longer. Lots of weird pains surfacing each day. My right arm is caning at the moment, as is my left knee. Neck still sore from whiplash.

However, in two bits of great news that I just heard:

    1. Olly Jefcott, forum member and solicitor extraordinaire is going to take my case on against this driver. It's fucking ace to have a forumenger on side for this and I feel really positive about it. If it comes off EVERYONE is invited to beers on me, I promise.

    2. I wrote to Tel who sells a lot of dutch frames because I was really after converting a Gazelle Super Mondial at some point. Told him that I don't have cash right now but would he keep his eye out for me. Not only has he found me a mint early 90's super, he's arranged for it to be delivered to me this Monday and has said I can pay him when I have the funds. This is almost mind boggling brilliant: it'll give me something to do at home and it's cheered me up no end.

    What a legend.

  • It's seems this story may well outshine your nicked bike, recovered bike ocdc.

Together with your memes you're a credit to the forum IMHO

  • Forum love all round! Come ou for a beer soon OCDC.

  • Horrid story. The driver needs to be hit exactly where it hurts.

Ah you're killing me here. Cheers mate.

Forum love all round! Come out for a beer soon OCDC.

Was thinking fun times down the Great Eastern in a week or so. Everyone welcome. First round on ocdc. Spread the word, I'll put a date up soon.

    On it!

  • Every cloud...

  • Hello Rory
Thanks for the frame enquiry. Our most popular tubing by far is the 725 which gives a sportier feel to the ride and closely followed by the 953 which is a very light tubing set. Both these options would be a good choice. Its the head tube angle and fork rake and top tube length which brings the wheel closer to you. The extended head tube is for the rider to sit a little more upright. We will do a drawing and send it to you before build so we could design the clearances for you. The white will look ok over the silver. We have a turn around time at the moment of about 5 months.
    Thank you
