oh and can i use cycle to work just to buy rest of the stuff other than frame i.e groupset wheels and other stuff
does anyone have any experience with this? -

Buy as heavily discounted bicycle as you can from the cycle to work scheme (£1000 limit), regardless of whether it fits you or not. You are not allowed to buy components through the cycle to work scheme. Sell the frame and any components you don't want on. Bang - you've got a nice frame with nice components. You'll have to square this away with your employer because technically you are leasing the bike from them. You normally have 10 months to pay it off. The more you get paid the better deal you'll get. This has all been covered (utfs).
This would give you what you want - http://www.wiggle.co.uk/p/cycle/7/Cinelli_Dinamo_2010/5360051966/

hmm yea i can go without the cycle to work scheme to build up the colnago, but do you think building that colnago is not as good plan as getting that cinelli under C2W? Plus I want steel :(

He means buy the Cinelli with C2W and use the groupset off it to build your Colnago and then sell the Cinelli frame seperately.

Thats what I was about to point out...
You buy that cinelli, strip it, and then get all those bits on the 'Nago...simples...

I think Conan just means because that Cinelli has similar componentry to what you want.
The colnago is sweetToo Slow

You don't get me. You buy the bike, sell the frame (£200ish) and keep the parts. You'll have to get a stem and probs a seatpost. Appart from that your sorted. Anything else you don't like you can replace as you go.
To build something you like is going to cost regardless - an £1000 budget is bordering on being unrealistic even if you buy lots of secondhand bits.
This is what I built for around £900 (the wheels were £320), originally a surly steamroller complete (sale price £415) £345 total on c2W, Sold the f+f for £180, BJ f+f headset, headset and carriage £330, nitto stem £45, pedals £20, saddle £30
note - saddle is too low -

Thats a nice looking bike!
The reason I went up to £1000 was I plan to buy everything new . .
Or should I not?
What do you think should I have on the frame groupset wise? Veloce (silver) or Centaur (bad looking but better performance) Athena is a bit out my budget but I can stretch if I compromise on wheels.
I dont want ANYTHING carbon -

The plan was to do something similar, I spent a good 3 months scouring about for a small frame to no avail, I've also been impatient and bought most of the stuff on my bike new. I like it and does the job though, next purchase some DA cranks.

I dont want ANYTHING carbonVeloce is a great groupset performance wise. Some of the components could be lighter, with the use of a higher grade of alu, or carbon/Ti, which you get with centaur and so on. But I'd stick to Veloce, as looks are important here.
I'd definitly get some hand built wheels though. They would look, and likely ride, better. Idealy some Ambrosio Excellight rims (hand finished beautiful looking rims) laced to Ambrosio hubs (for budget), would be £281. But bear in mind that you could pick a spoke count and pattern to suit your weight and riding style. No point in having a lovely steel frame and overly stiff or flexi wheels.

now that i am reading into grouppo's a lot i think I have settled my mind on SRAM Rival (I will take a test ride on a rival bike in evans or CS sometime this week)
What I'd get with SRAM is high performance:money:maintenance ratio.
Is it a big NO NO to have SRAM on a colnago? do i HAVE to go with campy?
I may destroy the looks if i dont have an aluminium (steel looking grouppo) like the 2011 veloce or athena.next up is wheels.
I do agree Smallfurry's point abt handmade wheels esp bcoz i dont know shit abt them!
What exactly is the handbuilt vs factory argument?
How do I figure out spoke count?
How imp are the hubs? (how much should I spend on them?)
what exactly is stiffness? (read on sheldon's site but didn't get it)
Now I can extend my budget for wheels up to £400.and the last question is threadless or a quill stem? (for threadless i'll have to use a converter)

alright
decisions decisions!Went to Condor yesterday and I am totally convienced with handbuilt wheels and the options I have are:
If Campy then Chorus hubs+mavic open pro 32H+double butted spokes = £290
If SRAM/Shimano then Ultegra hubs+mavic open pro 32H+double butted spokes = £260
and now the confusion is of groupset I am sold equally on SRAM Rival 2010 and Campy Veloce Silver 2011.SRAM Good points: AMAZING value and almost half the cost of 2011 chorus which is the campy equivalent, i liked the dark gray matt look of chain rings :)
**SRAM Bad points: **None except the looks, I am not saying its not good looking but on a steel colnago the appropriate look would be of Aluminium groupset like Veloce Silver or Athena (I can't afford athena and centaur looks shit)
**Cost: **£440Veloce good points: Its Campy :) everything will stay italian :) I will save £20 and the bike will look good
**Veloce bad points: **Performance/weight compared to Rival and doesent have that great value as comapred to SRAM which is also because i will be buying 2011 veloce and SRAM havent launched new groupsets this year yet so the 2010 ones are cheap.
**Cost: **£420 -

oh and also the best thing at Condor yesterday was they told me I can use Cycle to Work scheme just to buy components and the build.
I might not buy the groupset from them becoz they are very expensive compared to online shops.
But wheels and other stuff + the build (£100) will be done by them under C2W :DThey are selling Rival for some £720!!!
I can buy Force in that cost and save some money ;) -

ohk update from Condor (they are really good at replying to their twitter feed)
Everything bought at their place incl the groupset it will cost me £757 using C2W scheme.
so Win!
Now I just have to decide Veloce or Rival, with Veloce I will b saving £160 more.
Please people help me on the groupset decision :) -

oh and sorry Wingedangel I will be building the bike at Condor.

Sweet Jesus.. I built my Colnago for £44.50
-
• #20
i could do it if i wait longer and buy 2ndhand stuff but i am a grossly overpaid yuppie working in graphic design :D
-
• #21
£$ ill sell you mine for £50
-
• #22
Thanks but no thanks :)
nothing 2nd hand was my thumb rule, altought the frame is.
I just cant afford a new master x light :) -
• #23
i will buy for $£50 pleeaase luvver

That frame looks great. I've not ridden Veloce or Rival, but for that frame I'd be campag all the way.
Got my self this beauty: http://www.flickr.com/photos/51229181@N03/sets/72157624765722471/
I will be building it up during next 4/5 months on a tight budget
Mt plans is;
Frame in September: £265 (already bought)
Groupset in October: Well I dont have very high budget I was thinking Veloce silver
http://www.shinybikes.com/product.php?productid=18555
£375
Wheel set in November: I am thinking Campy Vento
http://www.wiggle.co.uk/p/cycle/7/Campagnolo_Vento_Reaction_Clincher_Wheelset/5360050358/
£166
or
http://www.wiggle.co.uk/p/cycle/7/Mavic_Ksyrium_Equipe_Silver_Clincher_Road_Wheelset/5360032378/
£221
Rest stuff (handlebar, stem, seatpost, pedals, bar tape, saddle) and BUILD in December: I already have a Brooks B17 that I will transfer to this bike and for the rest my budget is around £150 so please suggest. I will not build this myself so I will have to consider £100 for the cost of built up.
So with campy Vento I get the bike for £1000 or with Mavic Ksyrium it goes £60 up (which I dont mind)
Are there any suggestions? am I doing something wrong? good sources to buy stuff? (i know shiny bikes is shite so I am thinking Athena from Planet X if its still there next month) am I doing a mistake making this beauty on a budget? after the regular sarcasm and dwarf tossing I'd appreciate some serious comments.
Oh and I have a Planet X Uncle John (Ultegra/DA/105 mix with Mavic Aksium) bike that i will use till i get this one ready and sell it later for around £400-ish.
Thank you
