Bike /bits to Donate

Posted on
  • I've acquired... as you do, various bikes & Bits... that could do with going to a worthy cause - nothing of any decent spec, but just would be good for community based projects etc.. I recall there was a group in Whalley Range that did bike maintenance training etc... that took donated bikes??? does anybody know of them or anybody else??

  • If it interests you, a donation to manchester bicycle polo could be a most excellent way to expand the sport.

  • Nes might be interested - worth a PM her way (if you don't do the polo donation mentioned above)

  • Cmon can anyone help this guy out? there must be something in manchester that deserves these bikes

  • yes i looked into it and i think this could be useful

  • brilliant yes thanks...some details:

Pedal MCR Is a cycling community centre soon to be located in central Manchester, it will provide the community with a place to meet other cyclists, socialise and learn new skills, such as cycle maintenance and cycling confidence.

Our main activity shall be Earn A Bike. Our earn-a-bike programme shall provide donated bicycles and parts to people that may not otherwise have the opportunity to own a bicycle. Participants can choose a bike to earn after volunteering 24 hours towards our project: for instance, removing and organising parts, building bikes for donation or sale, working on the allotment (growing food for the cyclists cafe), serving in the cafe or general help in the workshop.

We shall provide a teaching environment that allows people of all ages to learn repair and maintenance skills specific to bicycles as well as more general skills, instilling confidence far beyond the bike stand.

Whole bikes, partial bikes, working bikes, broken bikes, old parts, new parts, bike tools, other tools, single parts, basically anything bike related. We would love to use all of your donations to build up working functional bikes. Even if your donation can't be fixed we can recycle it for you. However, bicycles must be free of major rust or structural damage.

We are in the process of acquiring a van to pick up large amounts of donations (10 bikes or more) or if people have no transportation available, however we ask that people that are able to bring donated bikes to us- currently Whalley Range (soon to be a city centre location)

The Co-op does not participate in any sort of part trading. You are welcome to earn or buy new parts, and donate your old ones.

let me know if you need any further information at info@pedalmcr.org.uk

  • Brill.. I'll drop the bits off on the range no probs.

do you know Paul @ http://bikecreche.co.uk/
I know he's working on a similar scheme in Salford... he'd be a good guy to get intouch with.

Have you spoken to the police about donated bikes? I know some counties already donate them to schemes -

  • yep + yep
