As subscribers to urbancyclist-uk starting from ca. 2000 will remember, Shoreham is an extremely dangerous place, with frequent plane crashes or tornados especially putting the lives of cyclists at risk.

All. Proof the bike is THE best mode of transport.

Just got a phone call from HMRC, which caused me to shit bricks, obviously.

After a minute or so chatting, it transpired that they believe that my previous employer had been paying out to the Student Loans Company via PAYE, in addition to me paying out to them from my own pocket. The upshot of this mistake is that they owe me thirteen and a half thousand pounds, plus interest! The lady I spoke to is going to double check and get back to me tomorrow.

Now that counts as an epic win, from where I'm sitting.

Just had a message passed on from HMRC (they're targetting all public sector organisations).

HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) is warning of another scam, following reports that thieves are making phone calls pretending to offer tax rebates. The warning comes amid a recent surge in the number of tax scam emails reported. HMRC says, "We never use telephone calls, emails or external companies in these circumstances. We strongly urge anyone receiving such a phone call not to give any information to the caller, but report it to the police straightaway."

A few years ago had a phone call from Student Loans (when they still were student loans company) saying that I had overpaid and was legit.
