Why don't we just get a big piece of cardboard ant paint polo details on it, that's way easier. I've got some spray paint and you must be able to get bike box Dan.

**Sunday Polo (During Skyride), 10.30am, Calthorpe Park
**We haven't booked the court (I'm not even sure that it's possible), but Shamim and I have been in contact with a guy called Gary who has some kind of organisational responsibilities on the day and arranged to show off our skills as the route passes us by.
We'll need 6 players!

i've spoke to everyone but 4ndy and malletesta (phones rang out) about polo uniforms, will pick up some t-shirts tonight. people are welcome to dump stuff at mine if they want.
how longs the ride (in terms of time)? how long we playing for?

the guy i spoke to said it's a circuit, about 8 miles, running all day. i reckon we should at least play for a few hours: 10.30 - 1.30ish...

• #1161
Are we gonna have anything for the gaps in the fence?
-
• #1162
not that i can think of - i'll bring a few extra mallets (plus one for hash) which can kind of do the job a bit...
i've got a bike box for a makeshift sign. looking at the route, it looks like the may literally come past the court though.
i'm looking forward to this now. i think we need to strike a balance between letting people have a go at playing, and playing 'demo' games to show how it's supposed to be done.
please please please please PLEASE **PLEASE **can people be there for 10.30? i know it's early, but i'll be tired and hungover too. deal with it.

oh - i've changed the blog name to birminghambikepolo.com (old address still works) as it'll be easier for people to remember.
it cost me £16.
i'd appreciate a £2 contribution from the regulars. if you don't want to, fair enough.

nice writeup about the world champs as well!
-
• #1168
thanks, it was the euros though. maybe world-standard player and one-legged slap-shottist ben 'bubba' o'brien will step up with a report from berlin.
i've scheduled a few more (boring) posts for the following days and pimped the site around the polo, cambridge and manchester forums.

RE: lights at Calthorpe Park.
Well, that'll teach me to call the fucking 'authorities'...
I called the number on the sign, spoke to a lady whose name I didn't get, who got the 'Pavillion Manager' to call me back.
I asked him if it was possible to put the lights on around 7.30, and he said it was something he could do. After that he asked me what I was using it for, I said bike polo on Wednesday nights, he said 'because it's organised, you should be paying for it'. Polite debate ensued, with me claiming that organised or not, it's a council court where the lights are on regardless and I pay my council tax. He then moved on to saying we shouldn't be using bikes on there, anyway, as 'it's for kids'. I then said, no, it's for everyone and it doesn't matter how people want to use it so long as no damage is done and everyone respects each other.
So, this could get annoying... I foolishly let slip that we play on Wednesday nights (the great sin of 'organisation') so he could make life difficult for us. I guess if he does we'll have to take it further up the chain at the council, or whoever is in charge, probably in writing.
He's certainly not going to change the lights for our convenience, so let's say polo, 8pm next week.
I have the guys name and number.
