I own a pump. But the whole purpose of a bike shop leaving them available for punters is so they can use them should they be caught short, or for whatever reason. So if they choose to provide this service, which they should and I appreciate, the very least they should do is ensure they work. To know they're not up to the task, as in this case, is service without the service. That's my point.
