Nearly every stolen bike thread is "kingsland road" this or "hackney" that. I appreciate you look after your own bikes, but it's a plain fact that more bikes get nicked in London's 'trendy' east end.
There are other factors as well - like a probably disproportionate number of people on this forum living in the East End and a disproportionate number of bars/pubs/venues/shops in the East End that people ride to and lock up outside of. Not many people are riding out to Tooting Bec or Putney or Acton, locking up outside, and spending an evening/night in a pub. In fact, most people riding to these places are riding home and putting their bikes in their flats.
That being said, lots of bikes get nicked in the East End. But if Peckham or New Cross becomes the next "cool" spot, you'll see the same thing there. And if you want to talk about violent crimes, the South isn't so nice anymore.
