  • I tore up the innards of my knee. Thought I would definetely need surgery. But due to some general NHS incompetence I ended up having to wait many months to get my scans and finally be referred to relevant doctors nearly a year later.

Needless to say, I had got stuck in with lots of my own heavy rehab to get myself back on my feet. By the time I had my scan they could not actually find a tear. My knee still felt a little fucked, but it had healed!

Now about 1 1/2 years since my injury, I can do anything I want with my leg/knee. No longer causes me problems. It still feels a little weird, and there is some grinding with a fully bent knee. But I would say its up to 90% .

I dont know what the details of your issue is, and you would do good do find a clever doctor with sports experience to help you out. But instinct tells me, meniscus injuries in particular (which I think mine was) can probable heal themselves with the right rehab. The meniscii are like pads which your femur (condoyles?) rest on, and they kind of hold stuff in place and cushion somewhat. When you get a tear, a part of your meniscii is usually dangling causing pain and poor motion of the knee. The surgery just goes in to chop it out, nothing it put there in its place. Its just chopped out.

So basically, in my laymans perception. I reckon you can just tough it out like I did. It will hurt like a motherfucker to begin with, with terrible ROM and clicking/grinding. But If your work hard you can hopefully get it to heal in the right way regaining full ROM mostly pain free.
