  • police reference number, not crime reference number, my mistake.

  • I was wearing headphone though as a way to make driver think I couldn't hear them while enjoying the sound of David Bowie.

    what track?

  • Fuckin country bumpkins shouldn't be allowed in with the proper folk.

+1 - maybe I'll suggest that on that cyclescheme / cycleroute survey that's kicking around...

  • what track?

Always Crashing In The Same Car

  • Stand your (legal) ground Ed.

    http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/TravelAndTransport/Highwaycode/DG_070314

*The Highway Code Overtaking (162-169)* [162-163, 167 shown]
    162
*Before overtaking you should make sure the road is sufficiently clear ahead road users are not beginning to overtake you there is a suitable gap in front of the road user you plan to overtake*

    163
*Overtake only when it is safe and legal to do so. You should not get too close to the vehicle you intend to overtake use your mirrors, signal when it is safe to do so, take a quick sideways glance if necessary into the blind spot area and then start to move out not assume that you can simply follow a vehicle ahead which is overtaking; there may only be enough room for one vehicle *
*move quickly past the vehicle you are overtaking, once you have started to overtake. Allow plenty of room. Move back to the left as soon as you can but do not cut in take extra care at night and in poor visibility when it is harder to judge speed and distance give way to oncoming vehicles before passing parked vehicles or other obstructions on your side of the road only overtake on the left if the vehicle in front is signalling to turn right, and there is room to do so *
*stay in your lane if traffic is moving slowly in queues. If the queue on your right is moving more slowly than you are, you may pass on the left give motorcyclists,** *cyclists*** and horse riders at least as much room as you would when overtaking a car* (see Rules 211-215)

    167
*DO NOT overtake where you might come into conflict with other road users. For example approaching or at a road junction on either side of the road where the road narrows when approaching a school crossing patrol between the kerb and a bus or tram when it is at a stop where traffic is queuing at junctions or road works when you would force another road user to swerve or slow down at a level crossing when a road user is indicating right, even if you believe the signal should have been cancelled. Do not take a risk; wait for the signal to be cancelled stay behind if you are following a cyclist approaching a roundabout or junction, and you intend to turn left when a tram is standing at a kerbside tram stop and there is no clearly marked passing lane for other traffic*

  • I jumped to the bottom of this thread without reading it in its entirity so apologies if this has been said but when I read your description of the cunstable's actions ed i became disconcertingly apopletic!

You have to make a counter allegation to his alleged dent caused by 'you'. You go back to the police station from where these imbicilic cunstables came from and request to speak to the Duty Inspector. Explain that when the cunstables spoke to you and they advised you as to the action they were taking you did not really understand it having been in a somewhat traumatic experience and are now in a better frame of mind to discuss the matter. Make it clear that you are reporting the driver for dangerous driving, threatening behaviour (both the language and then him driving behind you) ask them how they would treat the incident if you were a female, would that make you any more vulnerable?
oh yes and be ambigious as to the dent, admit to banging on the door, after all what were you supposed to do- ring your bell? I would say I used initiative in a very difficult situation to warn the driver in an audible manner as to your presence on the road - which evidently worked. As to whether the dent was there before who can tell...!
If you do decide to go try and take some one else with you (especially if they know anything about the law etc).
I think there is probably more to what the cunstable said at the time but I would not make a complaint as you need them on side, however, if they did not provide you with the correct advise at the time as to your rights then i would question why you think that happened. Were they lazy, incompetent, were you arrogant to them, i only know you from the forum but someone mentioned racist is that because you aren't British in which case maybe they just went against the foreigner (not necessarily racist but because they think its easier and they can get ride of a potentially griefy job).
So for long post but this one really gripped my shit - they're supposed to look after the vulnerable road users....argh!

  • ^ sorry for crap grammer and spelling
One more thing ed -good to see that empty cans is being quoted outside of the other thread!

  • Highway code 163 and 167, perfect, no need to pay for that massive dent I've created with all my might.

  • what track?

I forget, but I think it's 'Johnny in America' when that incident happened.

edit - Afraid of American, that's it.

  • After some attempt, he finally overtook me, and tried to close the gap while I'm still inside the lane, I have three choice;

by 'close the gap' do you mean that he started to pull in, effectivly cutting you up?
from your pics it looks like you banged against the side of the cab - he would have been more or less alongside you and not much more ahead of you - and clearly he knew you were there - so how could he have even started to pull in - especially as he's not a short vehicle?

also, would the situation have been dangerous if you had pulled in to the left from the middle of the lane? was there space (the cycle lane?) or was it a question of being squashed against the curb? i dont know that road.

i dont doubt for one second you weren't justified btw - runs in with hgvs are fucking terrifying - and its mental for people to drive them dangerously - am just confused trying to imagine what happened.

  • If I pulled to the left on the cycle lane, then that create a lots less space between the kerb and the vehicles, thus reducing any room for me to manoeuvre putting myself at risk.

By closing the gap, he's trying to push me into the cycle lane as according to him, I should be on it, which was most of the verbal were about.

His option is to either overtake me properly, or simply wait, it appear that he can't do both properly, especially in London.

so the driver was basically using his hgv to push you out of his way - what a cunt

what was his explanation for why you hit his cab?

  • Simply that I shouldn't be on the centre of the lane not allowing him to overtake, he's just annoyed because there's a lots of car on the other lane not letting him overtake, and because I wasn't on the blue lane annoyed him even further.

He's carrying livestock ffs, I don't think you should rush it when you're carrying livestock!

  • u r v lucky dude! my mate "junior", workin for anderson young on a fixed got run over by a truck he undertook as it slowed. the driver of the 7.5ton box truck with tail lift decided to chase junior and hit three cars out of his way before nailing my mate cutting about a quarter of one of his calf muscles off on impact and the driver carried on dragging him!!! the truck driver got three points and a 125quid fine! anyone in london who can find "junior" from "A.Y." in the 90's please give me a shout as i've lost contact with the dude! ty and good luck scitchin all!!

  • Oh and his vehicles is clean and probably new.

No its not, any cctv? In that case make a complaint about his driving and aggressive style of driving.

    Dent will sucker out.

  • Fucking hell

Am in France and just on here for the first time in days

This is utter bullshit, counter claim for the bruising caused by him ramming you

Also use more funtclaps and cuntflaps when dealing with such twats.

  • Clean vehicles wasn't an excuse or anythng, just stating what I saw.

  • Tell the police that you are appalled at their decision, lodge an official complaint. If the driver or his company want financial compensation make them take you court. I do not believe the courts will consider it an offense to have to hit a lorry, to alert a driver that he is about to kill you, but I do suffer from unfounder optimism quite often.

That the police were really nice and understanding just highlights how stupid they are. If they were unsympathetic and aggressive, at least you could undertand the outcome.

    Ass-hats! The lot of them.
