if woods_alexis is correct - there's a big problem as people don't realise that artic drivers can't actually see pedestrians and cyclists crossing the road directly in front of them. there was a cyclist fatality at the cycle crossing in front of the british library a couple of years ago where exactly this happened. hope the rider's ok.
