Comfy seats that you dont need padded shorts for

  • ive got an awesome seat but i have no idea what it is specifically, except its a gipiemme nitrec saddle. and its dead old. anyone know of any other saddles that are dead comfy like this one?

  • I've had the same problem before, I tend to find most new saddles pretty shit at £0-25 mark, but the saddle I have on the polo bike I took of an ultra-gash abandoned mountain bike and its dead comfy.

However since breaking in my brooks it's been awesome, true comfort.

  • i always enjoyed old san marcos....

  • my chopped B17 is actually surprisingly comfortable with regular kecks on. I suppose it's the age old thing of the saddle fitting your sit bones

  • i always enjoyed old san marcos....

+1 . . And now they have done us all a favor and reisued them

  • i've got an awesome seat

    tfti...

  • rolls are the business and cheap for a used one in good condition, much prefer it to my brooks but it doesn't have bag loops.

  • just ordered my concor supercorsa...the limited edition colour versions for the bff are looking very tasty.

  • i always enjoyed old san marcos....

I concor, they are regal good.

  • san marco ponza ruins trousers. i am an idiot for letting it happen, but 3 pairs of trousers ffs!

  • thank fuck this thing is discontinued. burns holes in the arse of your trousers. i should sue

  • I used to do 10-14 miles on a fizik arione, no padding needed. (Still have the saddle, but now my milage is puny)

  • a lot of people really like Brooks, but I've only seen the really old-school ones with visible springs, etc - the kind you'd use on on a 3-speed bike. Does anybody know about Brooks for racing bikes? Thanks, B

  • I'm sure I've seen a cut down version of a titanium Brooks racing saddle that looked quite nice. Personally I think Brooks saddles look shit...but this one was ok..

Update..I found the one I was talking about..

    Brooks Swift

  • skully can chop brooks if people want. Does detract a bit from the comfort of the b17 (is that right) a bit supposedly though..

  • I'm trying a B17 atm, though I prefer the Arione. For shorter distances the Planet-x knockoff of the Arione is good, but too spongey for longer distances.

  • +1 Brooks. After busting my pelvis trying to break in a Team Pro for the last month or so I think its finally paying off. I can see where it's going and reckon it will be super comfy in a couple more months. If you can't put in the pain, I've found a Charge Spoon is good from new?

  • go out for a long ride in torrential rain to sort out a Brooks quickly. And then look after it well..

  • Water tends to distort the shape of leather saddles, so if you do try this method don't hop off, you'll need to ride it til it's failry dry so it keeps the shape of your arse.

I used a small amount of neats foot oil, applied to the under, to break it in at first. Since then i have been using proofide.
My leather saddle has done over 10,000 and it's getting better every day.

  • i did the water thin (accidentally) with a brooks and it created a rock-hard ridge right down the middle of the saddle which basically put all the weight of upper body onto my goochtaint. soaked another brooks in neatsfoot overnight which softened it up real good and kind of waterproofed it.

  • don't rush a brooks, you'll only shorten the lifespan

  • I'm going to concur with rab, I have two charge spoons and a selle turbo from new, and they are on pat comfort wise, although you would think the turbo would be nice from the look of it. For some bizarre reason my dark-grey (orange stitching) spoon is noticably more comy than the brown mock leather one. I have no idea, it just is.
Anyway, I do 16-20 miles a day on the spoon and I can still walk at the end of the week.

  • I bought a WTB Rocket V for my commuter as I use it alot without bibs. Its nicely padded, yet not too wide at the front.
