Sensible reply. You must be gutted about the wheel, open pros seem to get more expensive every month. Something must be out of wack. My Flyer is nice and easy to ride no- hands. I guess a rear end shunt could send the rear triangle out of alignment, but I'd of thought it would be visible? anyone?

Cheers richard it pulled to the side before the bus got involved though

In that case I've nothing useful to add, as usual!

-
• #209

Getting a C2W voucher through work in two weeks, have to get a bike through Halfords - got them to reserve me a Allcity Creative Flyer until I get the voucher. Any opinions? The upgraded brakes sound like a good idea. ANy long standing issues with the flyers? Almost certainly want to convert to bullhorns as well, with white bar tape would look pretty awesome
Any thoughts on a) it is worth getting or b) if there is a better option through Halfords with a £1k voucher (i.e. cheaper bike with upgrades?)
-
• #212
That All-city has some hilarious sticker on it saying "aint no love in the city" or something equally wank.
Also.. looks like a zebra
-
• #213
Any suggestions for what to do instead? Can't cancel this voucher now and I've sold my other bike on eBay already.
I have £1000 to play with (in Halfords...) but want something good to start with, with the aim of making it perfect for me over time. I am six foot five and ride the roads of Birmingham (i.e. the roads have been fucked into a tinker's bucket) and are filled with awful cage driving wankers - so comfort and brakes are a must

• #214
Halfords? wow.. try selling the voucher to someone and take the money somewhere else.. not much choice in halfords!!

Not as bad as it sounds, they have confirmed they can order in:
Genesis (flyer, day 01 etc.)
Bianchi (pista steel)
Specialized
Felt
Trek
CannondaleBasically they can source any bike, but at full RRP only (the bastards), hence being able to reserve me a flyer. I do like the Ltd. Flyer but as pointed out the colour scheme is a bit tacky (nothing some spray paint wont fix) however the components seem fairly tasty. I am very keen to get fixed gear as i use cycling as my main form of exercise, lost nearly 23KG on the bike in the last 4 months with dieting. I'm keen to burn the extra calories on a fixed gear, just want the best I can get for a grand!
-
• #216
If you want to spend the full grand and are limited to those manufacturers, I'd have a sniff at a Felt TK2. Beast.
Not exactly the most sensible commuter though, but who gives a fuck. They are around the grand mark, I think.
Otherwise Cannondale Capo for a a fair bit less... or a Pista, or a Langster Alu.

Or Kangaroo shoes

Or Genesis day1 cross. Steel, good clearances for guards, canti brakes... much cheaper. Mate of mine just picked one up and its a nice bike.

Finally finished my Genesis Flyer, it's had many mods and changes and is my daily ride. It's time to move on to other projects (Bianchi Caurus and Gazelle Trim Trophy). The Flyer is a great bike but I really hate the decals - they seem to have got progressively worse over the last couple of years.

Just taken the plunge and put a deposit on Genesis Flyer 2010 (60cm), after a messy attempt to buy a Langster Steel... Am paying £480, feel like a good price. Am I missing something?
Was trying to knock the shop down on a 2009 (£480) and they just offered me the 2010 for the same price... So hoping I not been to quick to buy!
Cheers, JD.
PS - First post, please be gentle...

Sorry, JD.
I received my 2011 Genesis Flyer last week. Originally I was going to get the 2010 model for its reasonable price but The UkBikesDepots (amazing service from the place highly recommended) offered me the 2011 model for the same price £479 plus free delivery!
I am in love with it at the moment. Much rather the colour of the 2011 model compared to the 2010, the only thing I dislike about it is the stock pedals which I am changing soon to Time ATACs and the stock wheels (Continental, not sure which model) are beginning to show wear already with only a few days use! But these can easily be changed! You will not regret your purchase at all! I went with the size 56 frame I am 5'11 and inside leg of 31" seems to fit me just fine.
