  • SKS Chromo +1 . Keep you dry. Fit well with slender tyres. From memory I think they do different sizes.(width) for diff size tyres. Might wanna check that.

I usually run 700x23 and as much as I hate mud-guards, they work, and look ok.

  • Nothing will save your arse from getting wet

it's not my fault, trumpeters lips. that's all i'm saying.

  • FWIW i tried getting sks chromoplastic on a Langster and failed, ended putting on clip ons.
I've seen pics on the internet of it done, but it will be a right faff.
    ...caveat emptor and all that.

  • Dale's pair (formerly Joes, mine and snowy's)

    Who's getting them next?

  • You!

  • The White SKS mentioned above are dead nice and pretty 'classy', I have them on my Yates now. Can't be arsed with rattly mudguards. And those will rattle^, mark my words.

  • does anyone know if those crud roadracers (or even the 18-23 raceblades) are ok to use with 28c vittoria randonneurs? I know that's probably a stupid question but the really are quite small for 28's and i don't have much/any clearance for proper mudguards.

  • I use SKS race blades. Easy on. Easy off.

  • Not for 28's though

  • Cruds will probably will afford some help with spray but they will be pretty narrow for 28s.

I would get some normal skinny SKS and chop bits off so they don't have to fit into the tight clearances, if I were you. Or you can take parts of them off with a hacksaw, just where you need them to be skinny.

rattle and creak. you forgot creak. i've employed so many heath-robinson esque bits of random padding to stop noise on my chrome berthouds: home-made leather washers, glued nuts, bits of foam padding from a helmet and leather bar tape where the the guard rubs on the chain stays... and they're still not silent.

  • the blumels are really good in that department.

skully what are the s/s ones on the yates?? ignore, just read above. they look well nice!

  • ^Cannot use the cruds with 28c Randos they don't have the volume for the tyre, I used a Zefal Swan skinny rear guard and crud on the front with Maxxis 25c when I had a rear Rando 28c.

Now got 25c Maxxis on rear and use the double zip tie tip mentioned by clefty & skully to get past no rear brak or hole on the bridge.

  • Oh and the Crud V1 are cheap at a few places as mentioned and I believe (but haven't confirmed) that you can attach the new longer rear mudflap and derailleur guard from the V2 onto the V1 bodies. Crud will send you the V2 spares for price of few stamps.

  • Dogs: Nope, those metal ones you saw were actually Alu, made by Velo Orange, and not SKS, I changed em to plastic ones cos of the rattling, well it was really cos they flex too much and slap on the tyres (only one stay per guard, not two), it pissed me off so much.

  • put a zip tie through your brake bridge hole, tighten a bit, attach the zip tie on the mudguard through this, tighten them all. trim the other zip tie. Fanny's your Aunt.

    nice...ta clefty

to my shame Skully i do have a brake hole, and should have thought this little fix up myself. i was lazy and bought blades instead. i will stick the cruds on my road bike
