  • probably while being skewerd by your super lame pink bars. in the bum. you coming over soon?

i have bar ends. I can take them off if you want an apple-coring though. I was going to come over monday but jamie decided he didn't want to ride in the dark.

  • Finished building the Thorn Audax Mk3 frame I got on monday.

  • Had my first build finished for a while now, Gazelle champion mondial that i bought off here through Tel. First time on SS and loving it at the moment. Next thing on the shopping list is a nice comfy Brooks. . .

Thought I recognised it, that must have been some time ago now though....Looks like a sweet build.

could i use 25.8mm bars in a 26mm stem? I know its not ideal, but there are some nice 3ttt ergos in the planet x sale, only in 25.8. My stem's 3ttt which makes me think it might be ok, also 0.2mm isn't even postcard width right so can it make a huge diff?

If I knew you wanted bars aswell as a stem you could've had one of my 3t pairs that I've got kicking about....

  • short chest, everything else is normal, the top tube is 55cm.

an idea frame for me would be a 57-55 c-t-c.

ahead stem is simply because those shallow drop handlebar doesn't exist beyond 31.8.

A 57 st, 55 tt would also be my ideal frame too (I have a short torso too). Looks like you have taken a frame with the correct tt and then compensated with stem and saddle position, whereas I tend to go for a larger frame to give the right bar height without the upward pointing stem and compensate with a shorter stem.

I find cross frames work quite well for my body proportions as the front end is higher due to the massive tyre clearance (higher fork A-C). My current Major One frame fits me as well as any frame I have owned (using a shortish 90mm stem).

  • Here is what i've been doing with the frame i bought from tilover. It will get some Amberwall tires when the current ones is worn down.

yeah i got a wimpy phone call. come over at some point this weekend, no ones about, bring the visp and jamie

yeah, i thought the sakae would fit it but it didnt at all, and i dont really want to do a shim. theyre not grooved either, so stupidity all round. you still have any bars for sale (3ttt double grooved) before i hit up planet x?

  • Here's where I am with my Dave Quinn build. Apologies for the shit photo - it's all I have for the moment.

There's a couple of things I'm not happy with but I'm out of cash for this month. BLB seatpost is the obvious one.

Were the planet x bars too deep drop? They feel pretty shallow to me but the bars on my other bike are much deeper in comparison

  • Winter beater/pub bike. Got the frame yesterday, and built up this morning. Seat post is stuck so that'll be a project in itself. Also anyone with a cheap pair of dual pivot campag calipers let me know.

I find shorter top tube work better as there's little change you can do with the stem over the saddle height, the problem with shorter stem is that it affect the handling of the bike, so I managed to find the Colnago with the right TT length and ST/HT angle, so I can use a 100mm stem which I find perfect on that bike.

    Ey?

  • not you, house mate jamie.

  • Ah, ok, I was wondering why I didnt remember anything about it

    Just a quick 2p

If you go down a size on a frame, it will often have a steeper STA causing you to push your seat back some (1cm per 1 deg STA, or something) anyway. Also a shorter stem has less effect then you might think, as while you will need to move the bars less distance for the same turn (by a tiny bit), you will also have proportionally less mechanical advantage.

Basically its all 'swings and roundabouts*

  • jambon, are you a black cat?

  • no, that's Rembrandt (the black porridge bear).
    I'm a ginger puss

  • I'm a ginger puss

    proofpic or it never happenned

Quite aware of this, hence a visit to the Bike Whisperer to give the Colnago the go signal.

  • Excuse the wank picture. Having trouble with the gears, the rear derailleur keeps downshifting itself to the lowest sprocket. Going to go and google this now

  • So once it looked like this... Sigh...

Up until recently (arrival of road bike) it looked like this:

Now it's got the track bars & stem back on it and a silver seatpost & Flite saddle.

The rest of the black paint is coming off soon and it will get a proper clean up.

  • oh hi max!
can everyone stop building nice bikes...
    please.
    kthxbye

  • What's up Henry

tighten the downtube lever ? i can see you can do that with your fingers. try it.
