Blooming: bikes with flat tubes are more stable, as the diamond shape is stronger - most riders I know recommend this shape a lot. However, if you want a step-through (so you can get on & off easier, and so you can wear a skirt), then you could try a mixte rather than a loop frame. There are some really neat 1970s/80s mixte frames around. I've got a mixte which is lovely for easy, relaxed riding, but I've just got a diamond frame for doing longer distances.
