OK, I've been holding back but I just can't do it any longer: The thread title is all wrong. What it should read as is 'Let's Stand in the Carriageway.' The road or street comprises both the footway and the carriageway, and none of you carriageway hogs would bat an eyelid if people stood on the footway.
