It's up to you as to what you donate, depends on whether you feel the site has value to you. The donations page is to be found under Miscellany on the menu. One-off, small, large, regular... entirely up to you. The gold star just is a way to show those who have given back when they get a lot from the site... it especially applies to classifieds.
