Bit further out but Wills Wheels just up from McVities on the A6 does very nice builds. £30 including DT spokes last time I had one done. Don't know if he's better or worse but I've never had issue with any of the bits they've done for me.

i have found from experience wills wheels are quite poor, little knowledge of things i called and asked what bull horns they had and there answer was ' what are they' even though they had profile and easton advertised on their website the people on the phone were clueless

sorry to barge in from brum, ste, but in defence of a poor helpless bike shop worker, 'bullhorns' is not exactly accepted terminology. if you'd have asked for 'base bars', 'pursuit bars' or 'tt bars' you may have had more luck. although there's also a good chance the guy knew what you were referring to but was being difficult/superior. 'bullhorns' is to handlebars what 'the S' is to derailleurs. probably 50% of people below 21 who come into my shop always ask for an S... nobheads.

fair enough - although the first result is the least bullhornish bar i've ever seen. the guy is either ignorant, or a dick. or both.

thread bump.
Anyone in Manchester got a spoke tension meter they'd be willing to lend out for a couple of days?

what you want a spoke tensioner for? building a perfect wheelset?

Wills Wheels seconded if in Manchester. I ve had countless wheel sets/rim replacements built by will and never had any problems, exceptions for wearing them out !

Oh Wills Wheels only do real road bike stuff though. If ya got a fashion bike with them multi coloured Velocity rims ya better going GBH or Bicycle Boutique for Manchester

Will did my wheels for my fixed - been spot on, and had a rim replaced last year (bent it on the flippin pot holes). Formula hubs, ACI spokes and Mavic CXP33's. PS I also have one of his fixed road bikes. PS you will get sound advice - I spent over £1k with him on my fixed and he advised against 'posh' hubs on the commuter, as the formula bearings can be replaced quickly and for peanuts (which I have done myself - dead easy). I've known Will for over 20 years though !!!
I also have some very nice road bike wheels built by him.
