That's a point I should have spotted having owned a Pompino for a month. The rear clearance was awful and yes as 35 would be pushing it.
You may just have to get used to the 'lively' off road behaviour. I go for speed over grip so 32c tyres work fine for me although my heart rate may be a bit higher than normal when cornering at 25mph downhill on loose gravel!
