  • But although the Gillott is nearly complete now I may shift it (or convert to fixed) because I'm gunna breath some new life into:

My 1985 Raleigh Competition. Had this since 1992'ish and was the first quality bike I built (got the frame from Hearne Hill Jumble). It's been hanging in the garage for years. I sold the Campag bits that I had on it and replaced it with 600 Ultegra which has also been robbed for bikes I have built for others.

Can't decide how to build it. The condition is not brilliant anymore so it's not up for restoration. I have the Sachs New Success with the best looking rear mech ever which I'm tempted to put on but I also have a Campag Mirage Ergo group I'm tempted to fit for practicality....(erming towards Mirage at the mo)

So the Raleigh is pretty much done. Managed to fit it up with a 9 speed Veloce group rather than a Mirage. It's just for knocking about on, not my pride and joy but has got sentimental value due to how long I've had it, etc.

  • It is, I would not advise going there, was being lazy and was eating next door so asked them to put my bar tape on for me while I ate. When I came back the guy had for some reason removed the handlebars from the stem, done the worse job at putting tape on I have ever seen, erratic and full of air bubbles and was white cloth tape now covered in oily hand marks. He had then tried to put the stem back on obviously getting stuck half way and had tried forcing it destroying the bar tape and scratching up my bars by the time I returned he was prising the stem open with a sharp screwdriver taking chunks out of my stem.

I did wonder about that place. I'd never been in until Friday. French lad there, Tom-Tom he introduced himself as, was making a hash of installing your stem/bars, so the chap I was with showed him how to do it. I couldn't believe it. I don't think Tom-Tom would even pretend to be a mechanic, but if you're not capable of doing a job you shouldn't even try it. It was pretty embarrassing actually. When we left he seemed more sure of what he should be doing, but seems not from what you say. Nice bike you've got there.

  • WTF?! I really hope you name and shame on this one - search for the bad service thread

    inexcusable =(

  • This collection of bits is currently getting in my way, I did manage to grind some stupid braze on (including lock!?) off, and found that Rover have an exact colour match, so touched up the bits I ground off. Velocity deep-vee front, no-name rear, stem that says made in Japan 'custom', bars from communist folding bike, stupid seat post and one flat tyre. Those cranks aren't really 'on' it.

And i got a lovely rear wheel from varno, some really big MKS clips and some 1970's pedals of unknown origin, and re-did my frst attempt at wrapping bars.

I have a black/yellow Giant stem to go on, so excuse the rusty bolt.

    retry

  • At last the NS is ridable! And boy its nice.

    What do you think???

    I'm removing the rotor asap

  • As for 'being bombastic', it's the internet and this part of it is a little bit more rough and tumble than most.

Bit rougher than most??? This place is a quaint county pub in comparison to a lot of the places I visit.

  • You're so hard.

  • Not at all, just that to describe this place as rough is as daft as trying to tell us all that there is only one correct way to run handlebars.

  • This place is a quaint county pub in comparison to a lot of the places I visit.

    Visit Kernow ...

  • Maybe I should have used the word 'sites' rather than 'places'. In the real world most areas have places non locals would be wise to avoid.

If you want a pissing contest of 'we've got the best chav farm' I doubt there would be any clear winner.

  • Sorry trying to upload pic again

  • Moglix you bastard ! those forks ! proper bonkers.

  • Jizz...

  • Has there ever, or even been suggested, that a forum best bike is awarded to someone ?

  • Can I have the purple one?

  • Ooh, what the postman just brought me

  • Ooh, the postman just brought me a Look

    More appropriate perhaps?

Lolo has one of those. Very nice in the flesh. What are the plans?

  • @Moglix - the paint-job on the Don Gibbs is stunning. Both bikes are fabulous.

  • What are the plans?

    Mavic Ellipse wheels
Pro Vibe 7S post and stem
    Selle Italia SLR XP
    Deda Pista alloy bars
    Campag Mirage UltraTorque Pista cranks
    Look Keo Sprint

In short, everything which will fit gets flipped over from my Koga, so I don't have to swap stuff over to go from TT to track
