  • Considering that you guys designed and got these caps manufactured, and are now selling them as a business venture...you really need to get used to accepting criticism, just like i have to.

If you have a problem with the way i run my business then go ahead and tell me on my thread...there is no censorship on this forum remember.

Unless of course it's to do with a criticism of these caps obviously.

business venture, hardly, all the profits were to generate funds for the forum. Yes there are quality issues with the elastic which hopefully will be resolved when the manufacturers come back from summer break - italian and french manufacturers shut up shop totally for 5 weeks over the summer.

It's a shame that you haven't shown the same support and encouragement that has been afforded to you many times by people from the forum through the many bumps in your business venture…

  • Generating funds for the forum makes it a business venture. You made something, you sold it, you put the money into the forum/business.

I've shown plenty of support for this forum over the years Wayne, I never asked for ANYTHING in return.
Archie's Grobags was a business. I made a product and sold it, when i wasn't either giving them away or trying to let people have things as cheaply as possible.
I don't ask for or expect bumps of any kind. If people choose to support or encourage then i'm pleased, but if you're trying to say that i owe everything to the forum then i disagree,

Regardless of the support i've received it doesn't mean i can't find this whole situation either amusing or ludicrous.

Just because forum members were involved it doesn't mean it's above piss taking.

Just because i say things openly rather than leave snide tags like people have on my threads is no reason to throw the toys out of the pram.

If this place is heading the way i suspect it is then you're gonna have to get used to people speaking openly AND criticizing.

As far as i'm concerned i've said nothing on here that is any more out of order than most of what i read on almost any thread on the forum.

If you don't like reading my opinions then you can put me on ignore too. Simple.

  • Erm Scott, what precisely would you have me do? Really? Because I'm already offering a full refund to anyone who wants it, and there are already volunteers who will fix caps that break for those who want to keep the cap but have it fixed.

So as we're covering both of those angles already, what precisely should I be offering customers that I'm not already? That is what it means to say it's run as a business, to step up and admit faults (which I personally have done) and offer to put them right (which I personally have done through refunds and other have done through offering to repair) and to make sure it doesn't happen again (which if I make more I will do).

So... what would Scott not Scot do? Tell us your business tip for success so that I can learn how to produce things up to your standard.

Well you could try being a little more grown up about accepting criticism for one...you're the boss FFS.
Seriously, is there a need for the patronizing tone?

I never said you need to DO anything did I?

Throughout my time on here i've seen Racism, Sexism, Homophobia, Bullying, and for the most part it's been allowed to slide, because you believe in freedom of speech...you think censoring is against peoples rights...Then you tell ME i need to temper my behaviour...I'm labelled unsupportive and ungrateful...and for what?

    For laughing at your caps!

Seriously...get a bit of perspective here.
Take a look at some of the things that have gone on on this forum and ask yourself seriously...is laughing at your hats really a cause for telling somebody to temper their behaviour?

It's a forum...you of all people should be able to take a bit of criticism by now.
I'm not under some kind of obligation to like the hats or call samaritans for support when somebodies elastic breaks.

As i said, if you don't like my opinions just ignore me.

If everybody else is happy enough with the hats why should it matter in the slightest what i think?
But i'm still entitled to voice my opinion am i not?

  • Here's how to fix the elastic. It's quite easy to do by hand - just need a needle, thread and a sharp pair of scissors.

The elastic feeds through the band round the back of the cap - you should be able to see where it is (or was) sewn in at each end.

You'll probably find that it is still secured at one side, if you sew over that end again it should make it more secure. The other end is a bit more fiddly. You'll need to undo some of the stitching of the band (the stitching that is away from the edge of the cap) so that you can feed the elastic through so you can make it gather up again. Once you get the free end of the elastic to where it should be, then stitch the end of the elastic to the hat. Then stretch the elastic and the hat so the elastic slips into the band where it should be, and while it is taut, stitch the band back down again - don't sew the elastic at this point, the elastic should be free within the band, just fixed at either end.

Very good, Julia. I think this is just the ticket to stop the elastic from being long and winding.

  • ...

Frued would call that post projection.

I'm cool with criticism, truly I am as I really do think that any opportunity to learn and improve is a good thing. That's not a line, I believe it. That's what I've been saying throughout, I want to learn and to make things good.I ask how to do get things right, how to sort things out and then I do them. My way of dealing with a bad situation? To really try to go beyond expectations and put them right.

And I think that's good business sense, to not repeat any errors and to put things right. A no questions asked refund policy with no deadline attached and no catches? Yeah, you got it.

But you're going on and on about this without your criticism being constructive. You appear to have something to say, but when pushed you just flounce a bit. If you have something to add, I'm listening. I am. But if you don't have anything to add, then what are you bringing to the party? Just a curmudgeonly attitude? Well great, what fun.

And you are allowed to have an opinion. Of course you are. You're being contradictory all over the place. On one hand you bemoan the shit you've seen on here, but that's precisely because it's not censored or moderated, and on the other hand you're somehow declaring that you're being censored when clearly you're not as you're still posting shit on here yourself.

Yeah I told you to temper your behaviour, because you really do take things personally far too much online and then attack, attack and attack the same individuals over and over and always by a ridiculous proxy of attacking something they represent or do so you can throw your hands up and childishly declare you didn't say X about them directly. As if that makes a difference!

My turn to be attacked now is it? Well I'm not bothered about you attacking me, that reflects on you and not I. What I am bothered about though is you attacking me by the proxy of the things that I and others have done to try and do good things for the people here whilst raising money. I stand by that work and will defend it, naturally. If something is wrong I'll try and put it right, if something is out of shape I'll try and straighten it out.

I have a lot of time for you Scott, this is why I allow myself to be drawn in by you again and again. Normally I would just ignore someone (no button needed), but with you I'd rather I have the conversation. I don't know what put a bee in your bonnet, perhaps it's the shit that's gone down over the past few months, but does that need airing on here?

We're talking about caps here, and yet you bite, bite, bite, and then you ask me to get some perspective... I have some. Enough to know when a friend is hurting themselves and desperately wanting them not to do that. But since you're doing it I'll just come out and say it bluntly and at least if you're going to be pissed at me it'll be for a reason:

Get your shit together Scott. Everyone knows what you've recently been through and are going through, you're not the only one who suffers depression... but sitting on here being a bitch isn't going to help. Being in a dark place isn't an excuse for being shitty. Come on man, you're better than that, direct your anger somewhere useful and use it as an energy. But this! Is this really what it's gonna come to? Bitching on the internet as if it will make a damn bit of difference. That's just not good. Heh, and in that last few lines now I have probably projected, what a waste of time this post will probably prove to be so I shall make some breakfast instead. I'm sure you'll rage and fume later so let's chat then.

  • I know fuck all about anything regarding this...

though telling someone that suffers depression to 'get their shit together, cause they are better than that' is probably the most patronising thing I have ever heard said about depression.

    Yes, they probably are.....and?

  • Fair point. I'm there too, and I know well enough that I don't help myself by venting online. Which is all I'm sayin'.

  • Let's not forget something here...I simply laughed at the shit quality control of your caps.
Every person involved in the cap process then decided to take that personally when it was a reflection on the chosen manufacturer NOT forum members.
Yes i found it amusing that after months of hyping up how great they were gonna be they ended up with shit quality control...that's my choice...whether anyone else finds it amusing is up to them.

If people then start having a go at me for laughing and take things personally and say i'm this and that then it's also my right to defend myself...which i have.

I didn't say you HAD censored me either, but you did ask me to temper my behaviour...just for criticizing your caps, which i would say is pretty ridiculous given the other things you've let slide previously.

I haven't attacked anybody either...i've discussed with people and i've defended myself against accusations...you don't see me complaining about being attacked.

The one big mistake you keep making is to assume that i'm in some way angry. I haven't been angry in a single post on this thread...i've found the reaction to me laughing pretty ludicrous to be honest.
Where has been my 'rage and fume' ?

Finally, as for 'getting my shit together' and sitting here being a bitch...again you're confusing me having a different opinion to the majority as being bitchy or angry or the result of depression.

My shit has never been more together.
I've never been more focused on my 'shit' in my life...I've never been more positive.
The end of Archie's Grobags wasn't some unfortunate tragedy that i'm mourning...it was the start of the next chapter in my life.

You have my word that i'll never laugh at your caps on here again.
    Enjoy your breakfast!

  • If anyone did have a bee in their bonnet, they'd find it easier to get over things if the bonnet was an lfgss cap, because the elastic would probably fail, and the bee would be able to escape.

I think we've all learned something valuable here today.

  • Ha!

  • The one big mistake you keep making is to assume that i'm in some way angry.

    This is true.

It's a real problem of the internet that the tone is hard to determine as the communication lacks eye contact, body language and all of the other stuff that makes telling the intent and mood behind the words more obvious. But I'm not the only one who's making that error which is why so many people are reacting.

    ... Enjoy your breakfast!

That's all good news, and I did. Ryvita and pate with gherkins. Lovely.

  • fwiw I think the defensiveness came from the insensitivity and timing of your mocking Scott. I'm sure everyone else, me included, thought it was ridiculous that after all the time, effort and as you say, hype on these hats, they're a bit of a fail.
Of course everyone is entitled to their opinions, but if you bite at someone, they're going to be hurt.

Also, you misread my posts as being angry too. I was never angry and in fact was sort of joking when I said, 'actually it's my feeling that you've offended' in my original reply. I think regrettably this set a bad tone, so I'm sorry for that.

Of course this is a piss take forum, we're all used to that, but it came across as a bit arrogant and bitchy, even though I'm sure you were joking, to which those involved were defensive and some felt the need to defend.

Some hats are a fail, we'll sort them.

I am about to have second breakfast after a 10 mile ride.

  • I'm in stitches over here.

  • I like my hat :) I don't wear it much though, as I look like a nonce in it. That's not the hat's fault, it's genetics I believe. Still, it has pride of place in my room.

    yes, me too.

  • Actually, I've been wearing it a lot lately :) I've gotten over my fear of hats, and how they make me look.

  • I've got a hideous multi colour pink/purple/blue/black winter one I picked from Condor for £2 that makes me sick upon sight of it of course fear came with wearing that once but I couldn't care less anymore; should be on it's first outing this year tomorrow.
