  • If you run 38s on skinny road racing rims, you either have to pump them up so hard you almost negate the comfort gain, or you leave them soft and suffer dreadful handling and a real possibility of rolling the tyre off the rim any time you put a substantial side load on them. Even the apparently small step up to a 23mm wide rim makes a worthwhile difference to the usability of big tyres. For 38s, I'd got for a 30-32mm rim as an ideal.

    truth. I was running 38s on a DV (polo bike) for a while. Terrifying.
