Yeah, the brake touches the rim. But some rims are machined for brakes, others are not.
My polo bike has a non-machined front rim. It sqeaked for the first week or two when braking, until all the paint wore off, since then it has been fine. A more efficient person would have simply sanded the paint off straight away, as per Hassan's suggestion.

problem with my brakes. hey i just put in some new brake pads on my polo bike and they work a treat! however, when i use them it lets of an unbearable screeching noise. this happens sometimes on my everyday bike aswell. Has anyone encountered this problem before/know how to fix it?
