  • Was it £50?! I thought it's something like £30-35.

I got my surly for about £6 if I remember right.

  • Finished my raleigh today, just need toe clips. Had first test run about the road, great crack.

  • That saddle needs sortin and take the front spoke reflector out too

  • I'm literally just finished putting the chain and front brake on so still just gotta do a few tweeks and get some toe clips.

    (edit)

    Reflector is now binned lol.

  • after some hustle with it, it is ready to roll for now...

hopefully will get me through winter!

  • Current build now updated.

Debating on what next, I want a Sturmey Archer 5 speed hub in there. Considering getting the coaster brake version and ditching the rear brake, but the coaster version adds a fair bit of weight to the already hefty hub.
Once I've got that in i'll probably swap the bars around for some of the moustache ones I've got spare for a more relaxed riding position.

  • I like that, you already got two decent brakes, so a coaster brakes won't be an improvement over your current set-up.

the other option is a 2 speed kickback hubs (SA re-releasing it soon late september), so you won't have anymore cable, and it's easier/simpler than it sound.

is the bar those Charge Bowl one? the on-one midge bar would be a perfect combination, with enough room for brake hood lever.

  • That actually is a midge bar on there, with levers on the flats. It's the weird angle making the drops look deeper than they are.
Perhaps it's just because i've never ridden any kind of drops before but the angle of my back/neck when in the drops doesn't seem all that comfortable to me, which is why I'm considering something a little more upright (think the way the bars are on a guvnor, swept back with a tiny drop)
Will give these a proper go before I decide though.

I actually considered the 2 speed kickback hub, but looking at the weight/gear range compared to the 5 speed hubs I'm not really sure whether I'd really gain much from having it.
At the moment i'm running 71 Gear inches which is mostly fine but I'd love some lower options for when I'm lazy or can't be bothered to crank it up a hill full pelt.
I looked it up, and with the 2 speed I could get around 50 and 70 gear inches from it, or with a 5 speed I could be looking at around 86, 72, 54, 40, 34 Inches.

    Decisions!

  • Getting there with the Roubaix:

    Before:

    Now:

I think that 24t chainwheel may give some grief in set up so I have a 26t on the way.

  • Lavvly little ride a second ago. with The most spinny as shit gear... 23 15. I'm getting a new sprocket tomorow i just could not wait.

Also doing the obvious stuff to it.

    what do you think?

  • I think you want to level that picture and get a sheet on that duvet young man

    good grief

    Sorry Plastic.

It has a cover on it thank you. Its just cotton and white, and its the spare room.

  • First bits starting to arrive for the new build - EAI Superstar cog, Nitto S-83 post and Noodle bars, all courtesy of Hubjub. That is one shiny sprocket.

  • I love that you have the tires sitting on the inside of the duvet..

  • I love that you have the tires sitting on the inside of the duvet..

Where else are they going to go? Don't want to put them on the floor.

  • what's the purpose of the disk rotor, when there's no calliper ?

  • Also doing the obvious stuff to it.

I'm going to be relacing the front wheel as soon as money comes through for a new hub. I have different bars at a friends house, Also tomorrow im getting a proper sprocket and chain. and some foot retention. I'm not so much of an amateur.

And its a shimano splined disc so cannot just undo the bolts and whop it off.

  • turned out great man! very good effort, apart from that swollen seatpost. i think some glands require removal... and sort them bar end plugs will you!? :))

  • ^^^
    I like that.
Not to keen on the seat mind you. And yeah bar ends are a must have

  • So in the garage at the moment is;

    • my Fuji Track with the rear wheel out, covered in road muck and in need of a bloody good clean.
    • My MTB with new tires that won't bloody go on, gears that click and grind and brakes that always rub
    • My polo project with rear dropouts that aren't wide enough for the wheel, and when I stretch it out and jam it in they aren't straight anymore
    • My tourer that got dented on the flight home recently
    • My Dawes hybrid that I used to use years ago and is now sitting there without brakes, niggling at me to do something with it

The only one that's working is the Dutch bike I use every day to get to work, and when I say working, I mean working as usual, which means falling to bits.

    I'm having a proper sulk.

if you mean my lights, I know I should have taken them off for the picture. but let me tell you how happy you guys in london can be. police over here is on your nuts like crazy if they catch you riding brake and lightless...
I know brakeless is the bigger problem but lights were easier to install! :D

bar ends always look ugly in my opinion, and I am still looking for some that please my eye.

the saddle will be replaced as soon as I get this paypal shit sortet! can't stand to look at that sucker anymore myself!

  • And its a shimano splined disc so cannot just undo the bolts and whop it off.

On the other hand, you can just pop it off with the relevant tool and then it looks tidier than a denuded ISO hub, so a wheel rebuild is less pressing.

  • Finished my raleigh today, just need toe clips. Had first test run about the road, great crack.

That saddle is a one-way ticket to ball-crunch city... ;)

    Nice understated build though

    I could do that yes.
But it is a 10mm or are they nine? quick release hub. and the forks run a 15mm axle, plus the dishing for the disk is completely unnecessary

Some photos of my old road bike which I will convert to SS for Uni use. Any tips much appreciated thanks.

Do pinkbike photos embed? My attempts so far have just resulted in the small red x rather than the photo.
