Agreed. In fact, I'm only posting this so that I can get out of the nursery and post a wanted advert.

At least you were honest.

I test rode the paddy wagon and solo last week and went for the solo. It felt more comfortable for commuting, less likely to be nicked and £100 cheaper. First commute in on it this morning and loved it. Also first commute on drops and single-speed.
thanks for the advice.

???
The Solo looks a slightly better bike to me.

because I'm vain would've probably gone for the kona, really like that frame. shame about the colour of the rimz, and brake levers just look wrong.

I've had the solo for almost 2 years cant faulty it much lighter than paddy wagon when tested but most importantly full guards keep ass and crotch dry (changed guards for black ones though didn't like the silver). Also to Anil go back to shop where you bought the solo & ask for an extra set of the quick release clips for the guards and fit to the back. Saves cold fingers when changing rear punctures in winter.

I was looking at the spec and thinking it must come in pretty light, looks like a good choice/spec for daily duties. carbon fork suprised me too.

that's a fsking bargain. i really like these bikes. no nonsense, good frame, decent bits, practical, good looking anti-hip. i'd definitely go for this as a winter commuter if i had a bit of spare cash kicking around. bums.
Looks very similar to the Genesis Skyline. £399 is a great bargain.

I think Genesis is the 'high end' Ridgeback, my dad used to have a Ridgeback 'Genesis Day 01'.

Couldn't resist - just arranged to have one delivered with the intention of converting it to IGH eight speed for touring duties. Bargain.

That sound pretty good.
Howard, don't forget there's a 11 speeds IGH coming this month if you're thinking of more range.
-

It even has genesis stamped dropouts. This bike for the money seems almost perfect. Change the wheels for my planet x ones and the seatpost for carbon and It's perfect - might not be the best looking bike but for practicability it's up there.

Strongly considering buying one a doing the same.
Question about sizing: the geo spec on the Ridgeback site lists the 54 as small (55.5 top tube) and the 56 as medium (56 top tube). Is there going to be any real difference in handling?

Yes - they look lovely. I Have a feeling the O.L.D will be 135mm like the Alfine 8 though. The Nexus 8 on the other hand can be fitted to a track width bike without having to cold set the frame - with a small lock nut, you can get it down to 123mm.
Will let you know how it goes!
-

It will be 135mm (on the 8 speeds and 11 speeds hubs), there's other option such as the on-one pompino with 135 spacing.

Cool.
Did seem a strange post.

I was wondering if edscoble had played the classic talk someone into something and then call them an idiot for doing it.

seems like pace have gone into fixed gear bikes
the 42:16
-

Watch out for those when then have been reduced by a few hundred quid to a more realistic price.
Disappointing from Pace to just jump on the band wagon rather than produce something innovative but guess those days are long gone?
-
• #998
I don't think Pace are the same company as we knew once back in the 90's;

they are, ridgeback i mean, not sure abour high end - i had a genesis day 00 for a while - bloody heavy though admitedly bottom of the range. for the same price i could hsave bought a decentish, or at least lighter road bike.
Triton Cycles are having a big sale on singlespeed bikes. Here are just 2 examples:
