It may depend on your hair type but I could fit a larger helmet on top of mine. However I have fairly straight hair and it made the roots of them look quite depressed after a cycle and they only perked back up after a wash and dry (which takes hours on long ones) I also think it contributed to a bit of hairline breakage. I gave up wearing a helmet and now retain that bad habit.
Kindof obvious but if you get rained on they can hold a lot of water and become distractingly heavy (mine being waistlength). Can't exactly pop a brolly up on the bike.
In the end they were annoying me so I shaved them off...
