similar thing happened to me a few months ago, was trackstanding at a traffic light and the front end just didn't feel right. Decided I'd pop to Mosquito bikes to tighten the headset as that was the only thing I could think may be wrong. Headset was tight as it could be, weird, cycled the rest of the way home where undid the stem to narrow down where the problem was, I undid the front brake again to narrow things down to find the steerer tube and the fork legs come apart in my hands, completely rusted through, the only thing keeping me from eating the tarmac on the way home was the brake bolt. Thanked those lucky stars that night I'll tell you!
