I grew up near Loughborough. Rode fixed a few times around Leicestershire when I was at home visiting my parents, but never saw anyone else- it was all MTB and roadies. Anyhow, I'll drop by if there's rides or polo next time I'm back home.

Sounds great man.
There is a small group that does beers and rides but nothing major, lots of people spotted though.. just today for instance I was sprinting for about half a mile to try and catch up with someone on a fixed, got close enough to see it was a fuji track then I lost them! (fail)

yay go Leicester. I don't live there anymore and only recently got into fixed gears but pop into Casino and I'm sure someone there must ride fixed.
-
• #6
Is Casino still there? It's been a while and I don't skate anymore.
Rieley whereabouts are you? In the city? I was in Charnwood really.

Just moved back to round Leicester way (well about 14 miles out) for a bit while I sort out funds/job. Might be around town occasionally, blue Moser, say hi. Might be up for a spin some time

There is a casino but it's new so may be different to the ones you're thinking of (or i'm just wrong)
Cool, we ride often enough, going for a ride this Sat if you fancy it?

Hi all, i UTFS and didnt get much out of it, am googling at the mo but thought i could try here as well,
my gf lives in leicester, and we want to go somewhere near and nice for a weekend camping and stuff, i'll go up on a friday night by train from london with my bike (can i take my bike on a train from london? never tried) and we'd set off sat morning, not a long ride, maybe 20, 30, 40? miles to somewhere nice we can have a relaxed weekend away from the buzz and all the city nonsense. Riding back on Sunday afternoonwould love to hear recommendations, also a good camping site enroute, would be great.
any advice appreciated,thanks a lot

You could cycle out Rutland Water way, plenty of camp spots round there and probably some nice roads but I live all the way over the other side of Leicestershire so I don't get out that way often. It's just under 20 miles each way.
You can take you bike on the train but you usually need to say you are doing so when you book so they reserve you a bike rack and know you're bringing your bike with you (well with Virgin anyway, but they don't run to Leicester I dont think) Is it East Midlands trains who run that route? Worth checking anyway.

yes, someone poited that out, i should let them know, not sure who goes up that way but worth checking before, i had rutlands in mind, but wanted to know if someone been there/done that kind of thing and would reccomend campsites and routes...
cheers -

If you're going from London it is St Pancras-- Leicester with East Midlands Trains. You have to reserve your bike and the trains used to have only 2 spaces for bikes so reserve sooner rather than later, although that situation may have improved (hopefully!).
Not sure what to recommend riding-wise, others probably have some better ideas.

Who's doing the Leicester Skyride this weekend? It's a great chance to show off the delights of getting fixed. -

I'm coming back to Leicester this weekend (fairly temporarily). Don't know about what I'm doing with getting my bike down atm tho.

Will be coming back from Leicester this Sunday in the car (probably!), it's a Volvo Estate, so if anyone wants a lift/something large moving let me know.

We're doing the skyride.

What's the deal with this Skyride? The website was very thin on kind of concrete specifics. Like, do you all have to start at the same time, and ride around in some kind of hi-vis mass? (just what the pics look like) I doubt I'll have my bike for 10 on Sunday but might be able to get it for later in the day. I'm not on facebook btw.
Also don't you think that "Fixed Wheel Leicester" would be a much nicer name? Depending on how you lay out the initials (arranged in the gaps of an Arrospok, obvs) it could look a bit like either "FTW" or "FML". But then I've never been a fan of the whole "Somewhere Fixed Gear" thing, firstly because fixed gear just means you have one gear, i.e. ratio (.. but, a gear is a sprocket, right? so like the 'gear' (sprocket) is fixed to the hub yeh?) but mainly because it always feels a bit "Shibuya Fixed Gear Hardcore Crew Massiv" to me.
.. Idle thoughts on my last day at work .. Anyway hope to see some of you around over the next couple of weeks.

Further thoughts .. perhaps the whole thing could be superseded by the term, 'Fixed Drivetrain', which would mean a bike where it's impossible to turn the pedals
Starting a thread for fixed riders in Leicester as per:http://www.lfgss.com/thread43931.html
I know they're are a few around but they're all flying solo.
We've got a Facebook group: http://www.facebook.com/home.php?ref=home#!/group.php?gid=236275391757&ref=ts
If you live in Leicester get posting in this thread so we can get some good rides strung together and some polo!
Sorted.
