Correct.
I wish there was a TRACK bike porn thread rather than one porn thread with loads of benders road bikes and crappy fixed gear mountain bikes, oh thats usefull for going up mountains, definitely...
Prob is? sorry... UTFS or whatevs...Even though you're quite happy to use the forum to buy a road bike for a friend, sell an iphone and ask questions about BMXs. Argument fail.

Fuck off, I was High Jump Champion at my school 3yrs on the trot!
I presume that was primary school before everyone else started to grow?

Yes.
Although the problem with any automated system is that it can be gamed.
Are there so many classified threads that they couldn't be moderated before posting?Manually? Yes.

Was Geoff Capes good at the high jump?

Was Geoff Capes good at the high jump?
No, he was good at 'Bungin', you know, chuckin things
-
• #133
Pisti says high jump, he means he was thrown by Jeff over a wall for three years in a row.

If I had may say I'd ban The Crumble & Pie Thread, Coffee Thread, Cars Thread and anything to do with Bike Polo
What are you cooking for us Pisti?
deletes Football thread

The polo threads have led to more cycling related activities (including rides, not just polo games) - many of them across the UK and international - than any other aspect of this forum.
(I suspect)

For rep I think you need two different systems. One for the humour, intellect vs fuckwittedness type of repping that we have now that is basically a virtual backslap or clip round the ear for the poster. Like now it should remain private to the poster with no counting system.
The other should be an ebay style feedback system. Predominantly aimed at sellers/buyers but available for other stuff (perhaps I might want to rep roxy for her hard work in the accidents thread and teddy for running the Tweed Run) that allows us to publically demonstrate our appreciation for a thing well done and allow others to see who can be considered a trusted and reliable member of the forum. The second system would need to be limitable and moderator managed so you'd have to decide how and who should be responsible for it, but I think it would be easily achievable.

Awesome.
I do think non-fixed stuff should remain ok. There are a lot of singlespeeders and roadies on here as well as other random interest items..
It's not really about being roadies or MTBers or whatever someone else might do. This forum is a place for people to congregate defined by a common interest. We discuss other common interests as well so discouraging talk of bikes with gears on seems obtuse. A forum/sub forum for geary talk that isn't relevant to rides might be appropriate though, just to avoid confusion.

In my case it would be Drinks threads. I counted.

Re Classifieds
I'm personally tired of seeing so many geared bikes for sale.
Rather than create a specific geared sub-forum/extra forum or whatever, why not just add an extra prefix ? i.e you keep the "For Sale" "Wanted" etc prefixes, but add a Geared / FGSS / OT prefix, to separate the geared bikes from the track bikes, so somebody looking for a track specific bicycle isn't going to have to trawl through threads selling geared bikes or banjos (Which constitute the majority of Classifieds threads nowadays, it seems). -
• #141
The geared bikes for sale are actually quality. Especially all the Dutch imports.
-
• #142
Oh no
Not geared bikes for sale on a cycling forum
What binds us is a general love of bikes with one cog on the rear, but that does not mean we only ride such bikes
A lot of us are happy to sell stuff within the community at lower rates than it would go for elsewhere because we are a community and like to be nice to each other.
To be so damn precious about what is sold would be to cut our noses off to spite our faces.
What about all the other stuff sold here? Tv's dvd's clothes etc

i don't mind who sells what, most times there are good bargains to be had.

I totally agree. I can't beleive there isn't some kind of function whereby you can search for specific things on the internet or the forum. This is 2010 FFS!

FFS
It's a concept. Some people don't put the words "track" "fixed" or "fixie campagnolo cinelli CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP" in their thread titles, so UTFS doesn't always work. It's a way of making finding a track frame much simpler, and being able to separate different categories of bikes/frames/parts. I'm not saying the geared stuff for sale is naff, most of it's beautiful, but on a forum that originally was dedicated to fixed gear bicycles, it's surprisingly hard to find any of them. And before you tell me that the forum has evolved, I know it has. I haven't been here for ages (just over a year), but just from that I can see how much it's changed. I'm not suggesting you go back, make it how it was meant to be, just that you make what it has become easier to navigate. -
