Ways not to lock your bike

What's with cutting a chunk out the rear rim? The whole wheels looks swipeable if that's a word.

Its what happens when someone wishes to take a bike that is locked with the Sheldon Brown method.

That is a joke photo, but its how the Sheldon method is actually overcome. Cut the rear wheel itself, with a boltcutter, and that releases the bike. If the bike was valuable, only a new rear wheel is needed and that would be it.

I'm imagining that someone cut that bike free from Sheldon locking, then threw it over a very tall post. Hence the joke photo.
