I can't see how it's anything to do with ego, I ride within my limits which I am fully aware of. Ergo, when riding without a caliper brake I ride slowly and carefully, anticipating the actions of all other road users, seen and unseen. I have several bikes and go much faster on my road bike than I do on my 'brakeless' fixed wheel. I have a F. Moser track bike with no drilling for a front brake, among others, if you have to ask. I ride brakeless because I enjoy the state of awareness I enter into, it's almost Zen like, man - I'm like one with the road, the universe, the double rainbow FFS
