Trick forks

  • Hi,

Been after some trick forks for awhile, don't want to have to spend shitloads on some brand new, so thought I could maybe just get some cheap rigid mountain bike forks, straight leg unicrown or whatever. I just nailed bunnyhops properly this week, so won't be doing stairs for awhile hence they don't need to be super strong, I just wanna be able to try barspins.

    Will these work? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/HANDSOME-DOG-K9-TRIALS-FORK---20%22---MAGURA-MOUNTS_W0QQitemZ360281065248QQcmdZViewItem?rvr_id=129573724960&rvr_id=129573724960&cguid=9b071d4711d0a0aad2a517c5ffd00eb7

Will be going into my small plug frame (53cm), so the steerer doesn't need to be well long or anything.

    Advice much appreciated

  • I think they will be to small, they are 20" so bmx wheel size. You need to look more for a 26" mountain bike sized fork I'd imagine.

  • Yes those forks will be far too short.

  • checkout onza tuff guy and onza fall guy forks

  • Charge Scissor forks, think you can get them for about 75 squid...

If too expensive, put a 'Wanted' ad out on here, sure someone will have something for you...

  • The scissors are great.

You're looking for something with about a 400mm axle/crown measurement to try and keep your bike's geometry the same. Most of the MTB rigids are for suspension corrected geometry and so are 420 or 440mm long.
You may have issues barspinning big tires on that small frame though. What size tires do you run?

  • heh, yeah I realised after I posted it that they were for 20" wheels, thought I'd edited this post already!

Yeah I've been worried about keeping the geo tight, as I really like the way my ride looks. /attachments/30047

I've hopefully sorted some DMR trailblades (I) for next week though, for really cheap, off of a guy from here...hey are 440mm axel to crown.

I'm running 23s at the mo I think, i.e nothing massive just yet, but I guess it's worth considering throwing something hefty on if I want to start doing bigger jumps...I'll see how much bigger tyres I can get on and barspin.

    Thanks for the advice fellas

  • If you've got deepv rims you'll be slightly limited in how big you can go, tyre-wise. Any bigger than 32mm and there's more chance the tyre will just roll off the rim.

  • yep the Halo Aerorage is a fairly deep rim...if 32mm is the biggest I could possibly get, then I reckon that would be OK. I doubt I'd want any bigger than that. We'll see though I guess.

Well excited about barspinnin! You know that feeling when you just all of a sudden get somethin that you've been attempting for so long, and it feels totally right and you can feel you're doing it right? Nothin beats that feelin does it.

  • Those DMRs will hike your front end up quite considerably, your bike will feel different...
I personally wouldn't want to go above 420.

On the plus side they'll give you clearance to barspin, even with big tires!

  • DMR trailblades are suspension corrected.

  • We know this. It's another way of saying they're 440mm long.

Well, longer than 400mm or so...

  • I'm telling the op who seems to have not understood.

  • Will be going into my small plug frame (53cm), so the steerer doesn't need to be well long or anything.

Yeah I've been worried about keeping the geo tight, as I really like the way my ride looks.
