I like how the discussion was all about the bars. Ahem...Single Speed cyclocross? I know it's a recognised perversion, but since he's gone so far as to be running SSCX, I suspect the exact curve of the bars is the least of his handicaps when compared with the task-optimised bicycle.
When researching the purchase of my SpotBrand 29er frame. I corresponded with a few people who raced the SpotBrand CX frameset. Not without success either. This was in Americaland though, and I'm sure what sort of terrain they were riding on. But, I would have though the disadvantages are no different than that of racing SS MTB's.
