Like I said my point was more about choosing the right tool for the job. Why did you strip your mtb to ss and put slicks on? Equally whats the point of having an old racer built up as effectively a touring bike if you're only using it for relatively short journies

I couldn't afford a pompino the mountain bike was £50 second hand from a decent manufacturer (it is a Marin so it ain't shit), so I made it into a commuter bike over time by buying the odd bit when I could afford it.

As for having an old racer with a rack on ... never thought of using the panniers for your shopping? I don't have a car ...so down to the supermarket on my bike.

And my point was that riding a bike that is made for the "Track" .... thus the name isn't very practical when you aren't on the "Track".
