Couldn't give a damn then! I'll try and find out if the email sent to me was for Andy and Fin as well.

  • Couldn't give a damn then!

    well, yeah.

but... someone with as much facial hair and as large a pompadour as fin must have some london-types to stay with. and i've offered andy a place at my mates on sunday night. can't really pimp out my mates' flats. as much as i'd like to.

  • Sorted! Have just spoken to our host and she's cool if we all stay. We're all indoors, there are a couple of sofa's but if you've got a carrymat and sleeping bag would be useful to bring.

    Roll on the weekend!!!!

  • Thats a relief! no need for a tent then?

  • Good Luck chaps. Have a great weekend...

  • Black Stabbath Tournament Report:

Another great tournament, this time with 48 teams and many different faces (American, Canadian, and more UK regional teams).

Games kicked off on Saturday morning but we had to wait til the afternoon for ours. The format was 'Swiss Rounds', or somesuch. Four games for each team, where each round is re-drawn so that you play teams closer to your level. It was our first time playing this format, and I think it's a good system, although I also like the randomness of the circle format.

    Black Stabbath 1 Cosmic 5

Anyway, our first game was versus UK Champions Cosmic, in their new line-up with Snoops replacing Tom. Ali from Conos told me to push them around and that was the best piece of advice as we kept up with them pretty well. Of course they whooped us, but they had to work for it. And Andy scored a goal! I think if Cosmic gel with Snoops they could be even stronger than before, and it was an enjoyable game. I felt we played well defensively, and that Andy and Fin did a good job. I missed an open-goal sitter, which was the start of a lamentable tournament performance on my part. At least they didn't wheely-goal us...

Black Stabbath 3 Cambridge Cunts 2

Fenboy Three couldn't make it this weekend, but Hayden and Boagey joined up with young Luca to make a strong Cambridge side. It was a really tough game, in which Fin scored at least two goals and I think we all played well.

Black Stabbath 2 Spinal Tapout 1

This team is a London side, but not one of the big guys, so probably about our skill level. They linked up well but didn't seem too confident on the ball, and we managed to grind out a result. Big thanks have to go to my mate D who was drunkenly heckling the team all through the game (actually more like bullying them) and I reckon he had them rattled...

Black Stabbath 0 Dans ta Gueule Puceau 5

A very quick, very ruthless drubbing by a very strong French team. I think they got 12th at the worlds. I think by this point we were all tired and it was weird playing under the spotlights all of a sudden (excuses, excuses) but we were outclassed. I guess it's the downside of winning the two previous games that you draw a strong team again. They we really fast and I inherited Ben's unenviable foot-on-ground disease...

So after the first day we qualified by the skin of our teeth for the second day double elimination tournament, which was my aim at the start of the tournament. I was disappointed not to have scored *any *goals, but Andy and Fin were both doing well so we were happy. The downside of scraping through so gracelessly was that we had to play the highest seed team...

    Equipe 5 Black Stabbath 0

Equipe are two-time European Champions, and got third at the worlds. Suffice to say they were better than us. A lot better. But we made some good saves and it took them 5 minutes to get 5 goals. Which for us is respectable. It's an honour to play these guys, they're so clean and honest. I think only one of them touched me once. Off to the losers bracket we went...

La Schmoove 5 Black Stabbath 1

They are a strong London team, with a guest from Florida who was strong and who Fin was doing his best to mock - 'The goals over here Jared!' #shot, miss 'No, over here'. I was getting tired and Fin was massively hungover despite having some hummus and we probably played a bit too negatively - we put three people in goal at some points prompting heckles from spectators ('Get another goalie') and Schmoovers ('Black Dabbath') alike. They play a tough game and I wasn't really up to being pushed around. I finally scored a goal, which was nice, but again couldn't stop bloody foot-downing.

    And then we were out.

And then I got drunk. Drunk enough not to notice the final - I thought it was the quarters. Dick move.

Great tournament, good team performance, poor individual performance. Will Brum be able to send three teams next year?

  • Re B team - I can't really remember the teams or scores but had a great time. Gutted we didn't make it through to the second day but we will next year for sure and we'll have a real name by then as well!
