Basically switching it out of SIS (indexed) means it's a friction shifter, so you can pull as little or as much cable as you like - which means you can get the chain to sit wherever you like -**assuming the throw of the shifter reaches both ends of your needed range, which I am pretty sure it would as when a group set steps up a cog (7 to 8 . . . 8 to 9 . . . 9 to 10 etc) they reduce the pitch rather than expand the physical range (depth) of the cassette.
