Have just been really impressed by the mission workshop bag
Seen one in the flesh, really versatile back pack but lots of cycling specific features. Also fully airline take on compatible.
Great attention to detail
+1
I just got my Rummy (http://www.missionworkshop.com/messenger_bags.php) two weeks ago and it's really an awesome product. incredibly well thought out, comfortable even with heavy loads and really versatile.

£200+ on a bag.... jesus
Well I suppose then that this £350 messenger bag is not for you then? Is it £100-£200 better than the ArchiesGrobags?
No, probably not even as good actually. But thats just my opinion.

these are not exactly up to the same standards as Manhattan portage or chrome bags, but they are well priced, water proof and a couple look damn cool! think im gonna go for the eyeball bag!
you can get them from: www.toxico.co.uk at 25 notes each!

andi_social, I'm sorry, but those bags will never, ever make the list.
To be honest, any old school satchel is better than that. FAIL.

true
they are really horrible :( -

Had to go back to 14 and get the vandal by mission workshop, really well made and designed.
Rode home with it and the venting on the back kept me dry until it pissed down with rain. Did a huge supermarket shop and the bag grew and accommodated the contents of a shopping trolley.
The shoes also look really good, not vegan friendly (leather) but nice features such as if you are doing a lot of walking you can take off the cleats and there is a rubber plug to fill the gap in the sole. There is also an elastic loop on the tongue to hold the laces in place.

To be prefectly honest, they're not much different to the more basic freitag bags.

There is a froumenger on here that uses a Freitag courier bag, and its given him good service.
I would doubt a stylized plastic satchel would actually be as strong, even if it looked a close relation. -

Was just about to say, that might be me. I've had my F12 Dragnet Freitag bag for over ten years now. Although the bag hasn't been used in hardcore courier mode, I do ride in all weather and the bag has been used in Switzerland for most of the time; meaning very hot sun, strong winter, lots of spring rain and crazy autumn. 4 seasons. Then also used it in Glasgow... Go figure! Never leaked, never anything wet.
The Freitag bags are worth the money but they do fuck you over if you buy them imported. They've released a more courier-type bag with padding, and more wrap around which looks nice too.
Definitely a different league to the toxico shit.

anyone used the mission workshop messenger bags at all....e,g. the rummy or the shed? Am thinking of getting one having been in to Shop 14 and just wanted to know if anyone had bought one and what they thought of it?

I'm looking for a messenger bag. I don't do hardcore cycling, just knock around for the craic, I'll be using it mostly as a site bag, with all my site gear, locks, laptop occasionally & some stuff. I don't need to have a huge bag & don't want to spend a fortune. I see the Chrome bags get a good mention on here, so would the Crossair be a good buy?

I can't see a cross strap on that, so I suspect it'd be irritating on the bike. The better bags (anything you'd want to consider buying, basically) have a second strap that doesn't take any load, but stops the bag sliding about on your back.

Good point. I just checked the description & it says:
*• Cross-stabilizing strap around waist
*Its probably taken off for the photos. -

Waist's a bit of a strange place - normally they come under the other arm. and join at the mid-chest.

thinking of getting a belk when I get back from the travels, the tech backpack looks cool, though I wonder if it is a bit of overkill for something to replace my small six year old timbuk2, and carry my laptop and assorted other bits and bobs..

My mates got a Belk, its a prototype and hasn't got as many pockets as that. It's bloody massive, managed to fit a crate of beer in it once, they look pretty good though, definitely a tardis of a bag...
Check out Mission Workshop also, crazily good backpacks, mad capacities, they sell them at 14...

I have this bag. It does have a stabilising strap but it's a little awkward around the waste. It's not big in comparison to a number of other bags but fits a surprising amount inside. It's waterproof, looks nice etc. I would recommend.

if anyone has an industrial strength sewing machine and can find a source of discarded sign vinyl/tarp (which I haven't managed to find in london...), then just make your own:

not as easy as a chrome lifetime guarantee but still satisfying. I have some old car belt buckles as well if anyone fancies -

I have a Jandd Hurricane - Iniki

quite cheap, very resistent. Definitely worth the money
