I've taken the liberty of plotting the route, following the canal tow path from Dundas Aqueduct. It is possible to join the canal slightly earlier, but it means turning across the road at the bottom of Winsley Hill (we'll be going down), which is fairly steep, so probably best avoided.
The I've left the canal to go through the centre of Bath in case anyone needs a drink stop/wants to see the sights, then getting onto the river path in the centre of town, but you can just as easily stay on the canal all the way to Widcombe, and then get onto the river almost straight away.
Also, the original route has us going the wrong way down a one way street so it's a bit different at the Bristol end. Anyway, here it is: http://ridewithgps.com/routes/152343
I was also thinking that we could do something similar to Oliver's Brighton ride and split at the canal. So those who wanted a good climb up Brassknocker could take a diversion over the hill, and regroup with everyone in Bath. I'd be happy to show people the way.Sorry, it seems like I'm trying to take over. That isn't the case, just thought it might be something people would be up for. Feel free to tell me to shut up! :)

I like the idea of a hilly option, and it worked well on OS's ride. I'll probably avoid the hills, so it should work out nicely having someone leading each group.
Very nice work on the mapping btw - looks like a great site to use. Just to clarify, are we using the cycle path (see here) over the last few miles into Bristol, rather than the last few roads you've mapped?

Ah that's a handy link! No, I'm not familiar with the cycle path in Bristol so on my map it's just following roads. The cycle path should be signposted at the Bristol end though, so should be easy enough to follow. Plus it'll be a lot nicer than the roads in the centre of Bristol. I might have a fiddle later and see if I can follow the path.
I imagine it'll be quicker to go over the hill, rather than following the canal, so meeting back up shouldn't be an issue. Also if anyone wants to peel off and see some of the sights in Bath I'd be happy to show people around, but we might have a bit of a mission to catch everyone else up!

There is a polo tournament in Bristol the day after this ride, I thought it might be of interest to some people if anyone was planning of making a weekend out of it: http://www.lfgss.com/thread48763.html

Which train station would we be using back? I was looking at tickets but not sure which Bristol station is best.

Bristol Temple Meads is what you need

Ok, i'm booked on the 20:33 - this should a bit of time to relax post ride.
If you want to shoot-off straight away, there are some earlier trains which are also cheap, but i imagine that booking a train before 8pm will probably be pushing it.
Peace

I'm away for this, would have loved to come along otherwise. Have fun!
Bollocks, I'm not away for this (was going on a feeling I was booked without diary in front of me) but I'd also like to do the track day. Completely undecided.
I'm currently leaning more towards the ride ... (yes, I know, don't lean ...)
Decisions, decisions ...

FYI, bike space can be reserved on this carrier... most trains have 6 spaces, and the reservation is free. Call this number either before or after you book:

I'm going to have to pull out of this, my knee is still hurting today. Looks like I'll have to head to the doctors and have some time off the bike :(
I might be in Bath on Saturday, so if I am I might try to meet you guys on the canal to ride the last section and have a beer or two at the end.- braker

What are peoples thoughts on getting a train to Farnborough in the morning?
This will knock 25miles off the distance, cost £13, facilitate more stops, permit a slower average speed, and potentially afford us more time to relax at the end. I'm not fussed either way - just putting it out there.

Sorry guys, have to drop out unfortunately. I have another commitment on the day. Second ride I've had to drop out of this month. I wish we had an 8 day week with one day soley for cycling.

Cool, I'm happy to show everyone the way onto the canal and river path if need be.
