  • After one year of running these on the polo bike they're still going strong. It's really thick leather from a Next belt and they've hardly stretched at all. The crank against leather has left this shiny silver effect.

    JesusStraps

  • Out of Powergrips, Aurora and Dualism and ReStrap which'd come out the best? They're basically the UK-based ones. I think I'm between Aurora and Dualism...

I can't speak for Aurora or Dualism, but I've been riding with the Restraps for about a week and they're great. I've found them easier to get into than Powergrips, and the velcro makes them a breeze to adjust. They're £15 at the moment from the Restrap website or from 14 Bike Co (which is where I got mine); terrific value, I'd say.

  • Got some dualisms and I'm almost adjusted to getting my feet into them first time.
Just using them for general riding around/commuting and find them really comfy and secure. I don't skid / skip stop although pulling up feels as effective as doing so on spds (if not more so).
The only problem is if you miss first time and end up stamping on top of them, they can get flattened/tangled which which can be a bit of a hassle.

  • gonna pick up some dualisms off matt next week ill hit here up with a review!

  • I've got some dualism straps on Gusset bmx pedals at the moment. Not using them though as I dont like position they put my foot in, I prefer to have more of the ball of my foot on the pedal like with using cages and straps. They are very strong though, not had any problems with them holding while skidding. The only problem is that mentioned by demoncleaner, but its fine once you're used to it.

  • definitely got to get me some of these velcro chaps, using power grips at the mo, not holding too great.

  • Been running restraps for a couple of days - def impressed, though not used JOL/holdfast so can't compare. Better than powergrips.

I use straps for general riding round town and prefer them to my SPDs for brakeless riding as never feel 100% confident my feet won't release if I need to stop super quick - (keep the SPDs for my Bob Jackson which has a front brake). But I've heard ATACs have the edge on SPDs in that department.

  • got some of them velcro ones off George92, nicely made, take a little while to get the hang of. But keep my feet in place, can still get out easily (using wellgo platforms), well f`ing worth £15

  • ok this is a very basic question, but i'm sure there are many people out there who want to ask it but are too afraid to look stupid (or maybe it's just me).

i've recently started riding fixed, and as consensus seemed to be it's a good idea to attach feet to pedals in some form i got some holdfast straps. straps rather than spd as i didn't fancy buying a new pair of shoes / possibly having to carry them around if i didn't like walking in them. i am now thinking this may not have been the best idea.

my question is, how the fck do you get your second foot in... is there some easy trick i am missing or does it just take practice? i'm trying to flick the pedal upright with the front of my foot and slip my foot it in but it's really not happening.

and yes i know, great first post.

  • use something to steady yourself whilst you do it at first. other than that just practice flipping the pedal and sliding your foot in - you'll get it in the end.

  • cheers, i just need to spend some time in a quiet street away from traffic and laughing children i guess

After riding track pedals with clips and double straps for a few months I find it completely second nature to flip the pedal and get my foot in, it seems to happen without even making a conscious effort...
However, after riding on BMX pedals and Holdfast straps this morning I felt like a complete newbie again, obviously there is no lip on the pedal to flip it around, what's the technique to use? With track pedals I just place the middle of the shoe over the upside down pedal and pull back. I'm guessing with BMX pedals it's more a case tapping the pedal with your toe to flip it round?

I ride with BMX pedals and holdfasts on my every-day bike and use the same method as track pedals - dragging the pedal over from front to back. It doesn't work so well on shoes with a less grippy sole or in the wet. When this happens I kind of grip the front corner of the padel from the side to flip it.

Cheers, will give it a go!

  • I put a big cable tie (30cm one) around the back of the pedal, and then cut the excess off, so you're left with a little nugget to grab and flip the pedal.

Super tough, stays put (if you do it up tight enough).

  • Turns out I'm definitely too lazy (or dare I say too busy) to make my own straps. Anyone know where I can pick up some of JOL's.

  • Push Cycles in Stoke Newington.

  • Perfect, just down the road. Thanks Jono.

  • Feetbelts are shit, hard to adjust and hard to get into. Since it's just a big of old car seatbelt it just flops around on the pedal like an old rag. I swapped to Restraps and it's a world of difference.

  • ive got restraps but 1 keeps twisting up and its a bugger to get into, once in and going spot on cant recommend highly enough tbh

  • Just had my first ride with bmx pedals and holdfast straps. A bit fiddly to get in to but I'm sure I will get used to them, once in feel really secure and comfortable. I think switching to them from clips and double straps was the right choice.

Pedal before (with MKS Pedal Flips which are admittedly for quill pedals):

    Pedal after (Pman method):

MUCH better with the cable ties, it's flippable at speed much like a traditional double strap setup.

    Cheers Pman!

  • ^ definitely have to try this such a good idea. has been bugging me having to start really slowly to get into my straps.
