Its a cheap way Ed. Cost was a major factor for kev83.
The 650c route is definitely better, and it was my FIRST recommendation (post 362).
I couldn't remember the name of the model, so I wrote Dolan.

kerley, not everyone can afford the more expensive fgss cycles. I know I can't.
I got my Capo 5 on discount, and my Bowery wasn't expensive. I empathised with someone looking for an XS bike on a budget. -

Just remembered this is the OTP thread so I can actually post the Major One!

This is an article on Archie Wilkinson bikes, from this very forum. I'd forgotten about it. It's worth reading though. It is interesting.

I remember that one now (it was only March it was last updated I suppose)
So are they good or are they flexy, who knows...

have any of you ridden a speedway bike?
well i have, unmodified. i even rode it brakeless SS for a little bit, because i couldn't find the right drill bit. i then gave it to a friend who bought a fixed wheelset, and continues to ride it to this day in Oxford- its red and has yellow fluoro Halo wheels, for our oxford readers.
They are absolutely fine to ride all the time.
flip the bars and they're super comfy.
no discernable toe overlap with spuds/ atacsnow shut up.

Does it still have it's original fork?
-
• #411
what, my shitty red speedway mobile?
yep.
all originali'll tone down my response.
I would not, ever, want to ride it beyond a typical London commute.
But, for the prices, they're solid, hilarious and bulletproof.Mine was not a Archie W, but a 'speedway star' or something, it looked very much like a path frame with added gussets.

I have ridden one as said up there somewhere and agree they are fun to ride. But then so is a BMX and I have ridden BMX's for over 10 miles (had one as only bike a few years back and rode it everywhere) but would not recommend it to others :-)
There are more suitable bikes which was my point. A small s/h Langster frame would be a much better bet in my opinion.
-
• #413
Or just get a small Alu Langster frame? Sloping top tube allows for lower seat and looking at stem length above doesn't look like an unusually short TT is required.
The stem looks way too long to me and is probably adding to the problems.

Agreed. Would probably help to have one of those pictures of the rider on the bike so we can get a real sense of how the bike currently fits.

when i first started riding fixed gear bike, i thought bullhorn bars are the coolest thing ever. i still think they are very comfy and useful when actually climbimg/gaining speed. but tbh now i think they look crap :( maybe ok on lo-pro, but on classical geometry bike - crap.
please bear in mind that i'm not trying to start a discussion here, just pure IMHO -
• #418
Well so far I've only really given flat bars and bullhorns a good go, and found bullhorns much more comfortable for my day to day riding. Not really tried drops yet apart from a quick go on a friends bike, might give them a crack when I have a spare bit of £££, I like the look of drops and horns equally though.
-
• #419
^ yes. as i said above, bullhorns are great for riding, but look terrible imo
