if you get new cleats then you are assured of safety- using someone's old ones is not a good idea- you need to look at the tips and the rubber bung underneath to be sure you won't have probs.
I can't stand the red cleats as there's so much slop out the saddle I felt I was going to unclip, so its black cleats for me with no slop, but do require careful setting up.
Advice on the cleats is correct- copies last quite a while, Look originals last for ages and feel a tighter grip too. I must admit I do have both though
