Cycle Hire Widget by Little Fluffy Toys Ltd does pretty much all this.
It crashes on my mobile.
It's got horrible adverts on it.
There is no map view in advance without hunting through the limited list of front-end locations to find the nearest and plot it.
There are no favourites.
It doesn't solve knowing where end locations are to return bikes.
The Little Fluffy Toys app is extremely primitive and doesn't really fulfil the use cases. I get the impression it's both built and maintained by someone who doesn't actually use the cycle hire bikes and therefore doesn't understand the actual scenarios in which you would use an app for the bike hire. It is no more than a seldom updated list of locations tied into the GPS sensor to filter the list, of which the top 3 locations are shown in the widget.
But really... it's an app that deserves to die simply because it fails to really provide a great answer and it's existence puts other devs off doing something better because of precisely the opinion of yours that it's already done.
I wish to God (which I don't believe in) that people were really passionate about providing really great apps that not just satisfy the real use cases of the customers on the street, but that do so with panache, with verve, with style to make you stand back and whistle loudly before exclaiming, "Sweet mother of pearl, this is so nice I've shit my pants".
Little Fluffy Toys does not make me shit my pants. It makes me want to puke at the sorry state of Android apps thanks to two-bit devs who lack the passion, balls and skill to build something great.
