Keirin gloves, or just stop being such a poseur and use cork tape like normal people do.
What happens if your not a normal poseur?
-
• #33603
You can get NJS hand cream for that problem if your not wearing mitts.

I never realised soyos made me a poseur, and can I get this NJS hand cream from NJS-Export? I think wearing mits would make me look a bit un-cool.

I've just got an old peugeot which I should take delivery of this weekend, looking forward to the project. Obviously there's a dedicated pug thread elsewhere, but hey, I'm still "in the nursery" so spreading my wings. Really looking forward to getting started on the job though, as it's my first project.

Hairspray and Soyos dont mix, FACT! it doesn't give you long enough to get them on, then if you dry out mid 'grip installment' you spray with a bit of water and carry on.
or use clear laquer for a more permanent adhesion...
changes to fixed bike - new bars, ratio (now 51/18 instead of 42/16) & seat post.
Next up matching front wheel, black tyres, white tape & polish the stem up.
Thinking about blasting to bare, then red lug lining and metal flake laquer - but can i be arsed before winter? i'm not sure.
And this is the MTB I'm building SS for my sis, got all parts together, just need to sand, laquer and wait for frame to cure first.
Was half thinking about jsut wet sanding it and leaving as matte white, concerned about durability of finish though.

and they were from my first jolly good thrash, soyos tear your hands up before they are broken in.
Just use more hairspray and they are fine. Then a hair dryer to speed up the drying. Bit of back combing and the jobs done.

The bars were slightly too small so i buffed them up with some tape, conventional? If anyone has a more appropriate bar i can fit on i am looking for 25.4 mm diameter i think, preferably chrome shiny finish like the one in the pic.
Also the cables ended up being too short as i needed to cut them. Ordered some new cables which hopefully match up with the campag brake levers and ordered some nipples.
Also got some brown tape and hopefully getting some bar plugs off here.
Should be done in a couple of days.
Sorry if its not up to the usual bike porn standards on here.

You're likely to be looking for 26mm bars I should think, but you
Also, use a bit of cut up beer can as a shim rather than tape - it's much much safer that way, and you can get a lot of leverage by using the drops. -
• #33612
are those weighted pedals? I have a pair on one of my bikes and they're a total nuisance; need to make a mental note to change mine
-

Are they 26mm? And i hate the weighted pedals. I have been meaning to take em off but i cant get the buggers off!

WD 40 / gt85 works a treat

it work, but it doesn't stick when it's dry like cheap hairspray from the bottom of a cornershop, they're lubricated after all.

beer can, done properly works fine. it is a bit fiddly.
-
• #33618
very fiddly, the nitto shim is much easier, but still perfectly doable.

who said I use cheap hairspray from the corner shop. It is all about the 70's retro Elnett hairspray for me :-)

@johnnyrau - I liked it better before. Could imagine riding miles on it, with great decorum, smoking a pipe.
