6-days, madison, points race, regular training, .....
If drop bars were meant to hold the drops only, they would have looked different, maybe.
As you may know, advantage of drop bars is the multi-position.
I would recommend to tape the whole bars. -

For Madison, it's usual to use a road shaped bar with a nice flat top to make it nicer to hold at that position.Oh, and there's a reason why cycling gloves are called "Track Mitts", so cold hands are unlikely even if you do occasionally grab the unwrapped portion of the bars.
